국문 초록

지식과 정보의 폭발적 확장에 따른 지식기반 사회의 도래는 앞으로 전개될 세계 각국의 지식 전쟁을 예고하고 있다. 따라서 어떤 지식이 사회의 고부가가치를 창출할 수 있으며, 그러한 지식을 배양하기 위해 어떤 교육적 노력을 해야 할 것인가의 문제가 우리의 절실한 교육 과업이다. 지식기반 사회에서는 지식과 정보의 가치가 사회의 핵심을 이루기 때문에, 이미 실행되고 있는 제7차 교육과정에서도 기존의 암기와 재생 위주의 획일화된 교육으로는 더 이상 지식의 구성과 창출을 기대할 수 없다는 점을 분명히 하고 있다. 이러한 인식을 토대로 하여 제7차 교육과정은 자율과 창의를 바탕으로 한 학생중심 교육과정의 추구를 변화의 핵심으로 한다. 제7차 교육과정은 제6차 교육과정과 마찬가지로 교육법규에 의거하여 고시한 국가 수준의 ‘기준’임을 명시하고, 다양성을 추구하는 교육과정, 학습자 중심 교육과정, 교원․학생․학부모가 함께 실현하는 교육과정, 교육과정 중심으로 개선하기 위한 교육과정, 교육의 질적 수준을 유지․관리하기 위한 교육과정이라는 성격을 제시하고 있다(교육부, 1999). 따라서 학생의 적성과 능력에 따라 다양한 선택을 할 수 있는 기회를 제공하기 위해 수준별 교육과정, 학생 선택중심 교육과정, 자기주도적 학습과 문제해결 학습력 향상, 특기․적성 교육의 강화, 외국어 교육의 강화, 학교교육의 자율성 확대와 다양화 등을 교육과정의 주요 과제로 삼고 있다. 그러므로 이러한 점을 특징으로 하는 제7차 교육과정은 학습자 중심의 교육과정이라고 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study was performed to review the previous studies on the learner-centered education and to investigate the criteria for the selection of contents in the learner-centered curriculum. And the validity of contents selected was examined in the light of the criteria for selection of contents in the 7th national curriculum amendment documents. The 7th national curriculum is referred to the learner-centered curriculum which is characterized with self-directed learning, students\ elective curriculum and differentiated curriculum. Then, the learner-centered curriculum should reflect the nation\ s educational needs as well as students\ needs. In addition, the learner-centered curriculum should accept some aspects of curricular adopted after liberation. That is, subject-centered curriculum, experience-centered curriculum, discipline-centered curriculum and humanistic curriculum. In this study, the criteria of contents selection were investigated in the general curriculum areas and the learner-centered curriculum. contents selection criteria were inferred from the principles and characteristics of the learner-centered curriculum. The criteria for contents selection are as follows: First, curriculum contents should be consistent with the educational aims and objectives(consistency). Second, the contents should be within students\ learning capabilities, but the contents should be challengeable in some degree(learning ability). Third, the contents should have relevance for the learners\ needs, interests and real life(reality). Forth, the contents should be appropriate to the social and cultural contexts(futurities). Fifth, the construction of creative knowledge should be facilitated by the contents(creativity). On the basis of the above criteria for contents selection, the analysis of the 7th national curriculum was to performed. As a result of this study, \ the consistency with the educational aims and objectives\ , \ the learning ability and basic skill knowledge\ , \ the relevance to the learners\ needs and reality\ and \ the appropriateness to the social and cultural contexts\ are in some degree applied to the 7th national curriculum amendment documents. On the other hand, the criterion of creativity is not fully reflected in the 7th national curriculum.
