한부모 가족의 ‘학부모참여’실태와 자녀교육의 어려움에 관한 연구

국문 초록

이 연구는 한부모 가족의 어머니의 ‘학부모참여’의 실태와 이들이 겪는 자녀 교육의 어려움을 살펴보는 데 목적이 있다. 이러한 연구 목적을 위하여 첫째, 학부모참여 실태를 분석한 결과 학교와의 소통은 ‘자녀의 생활지도를 위한 교사와의 상담참 여도’ 항목에서 양부모 가족의 어머니들이 한부모 가족의 어머니들보다 참여율이 유의미하게 높은 것으로 나타났다. 학교 활동 참여도는 양부모 가족 취업모와 한부모가족 취업모의 경우 모두 전업주부의 경우보다 높은 불참율을 나타냈는데, 이 중에 서도 한부모 가족 취업모 집단이 좀 더 높은 불참율을 보였다. ‘자녀학습지원’이나 ‘학교 만족도’항목에서는 두 집단 간 유의한 차이가 없었다. 둘째, 심층면접조사 결과 한부모 가족 학부모들은 가족 부양과 자녀 양육에 대한 부담과 학부모로서의 역 할을 감당하기까지 삼중고를 겪고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 특히, 학부모참여에 대한 어려움을 느끼고 있으며 자녀의 교우관계에 대한 염려가 컸다. 또한, 자녀가 사춘기에 접어들면서 학교 교육에 대한 불신이 증폭되고 자녀교육에 대한 어려움이 극대 화되는 경향을 찾아 볼 수 있었다. 한부모 가족 학부모들의 자녀교육에 대한 기대와 노력은 양부모 부모들과 비교해 볼 때 결코 뒤지지 않았으며, 자녀교육에 대한 열망 역시 매우 높음을 알 수 있다. 앞으로 한부모 가족 학부모들에게 자녀의 양육과 교육을 감당할 수 있는 사회적 지원과 함께 편안한 학교(교사)와의 소통을 위한 교육적 지원이 체계적으로 뒷받침되어야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to compare the disparity of school participation between mothers of two-parent families and single-parent family. Data is consisted of 7,554 mothers of primary and middle school children, from the 2011 data of Seoul Educational Longitudinal Study Panel. The dependent variables are focusing on home-school communication, participation to school, support for child s study and satisfaction to school. Detailed questions are about the frequency of school website visit, the frequency of counseling with the teacher, participation to school committee, parent meeting and the evaluation of teacher expertise, questions regarding support for child s study and question on satisfaction to school. As a result, mothers of two-parent families showed significantly higher participation in the frequency of counseling with teacher about student guidance, the level of seeking information about private education, and the frequency of school website visit. In addition to the type of family, the employment of the mothers was added as a new factor and the groups were further divided into four to examine any other salient differences. Consequently, the housewives of two-parent families showed significantly higher participation and single working mothers showed significantly lower participation in the two items representing participation, participation in the school committee and parent meetings, and the participation to the evaluation of teacher expertise. An additional interview on 9 single-parents revealed that they had high standards and aspiration to children s education, but were afraid of their children falling behind from their less support. To solve this problem, a plan for effective single-parent support was suggested which integrates welfare policies that aim to fight poverty, educational policies that improve the awareness about diverse families and support single families, and family policies that supports work-family balance.
