국문 초록

<쌍주기연>은 신물에 의해 인연이 점지되는 화소 때문에 기봉류소설로 분류되기도 하나, 남자 주인공의 영웅담이 보다 큰 비중을 차지하고 실제로 쌍주의 기능이 약화되어 나타나므로 영웅소설로 보기도 한다. 이 작품은 중심인물인 서천흥과 왕혜란이 자웅주를 계기로결연한후이산의아픔을겪지만각자에게닥친시련을현명하게극복하고온가족이 내용이다. 고난에서 벗어나 화평한 세계를 구축해 가는 중심인물의 서사도 흥미롭지만, 다양한 보조인물이 특수한 역할을 수행하면서 주인공의 서사를 함께 조직하고 있다는점은이작품이가진특별한매력이라고생각된다. <쌍주기연>은분량이많지않음에도 불구하고 보조인물을 다수 배치하여 작품의 내용을 풍성하게 조직하였다. 인물의 심리묘사보다 갈등을 그리는 데 집중하였는데, 보조인물 사이에 여러 사건을 안배한 것이다. 첫째, 악인형보조인물과선인형 보조인물을 대비하여권선징악의주제를 명확하게드러냈다. 영웅소설의주인공은충·효·열과같은전통적인이데올로기를수호하는인물이다. 이 작품에서는 주인공과 악한 인물의 대결보다 오히려 악인형 보조인물과 선인형 보조인물이대치하는양상이두드러진다. 남만왕과남만태자, 제왕과월향, 고산과구녀, 오이랑과 양신청이 대립하는데, 모두 선인형 보조인물이 승리함으로써 상대적으로 선행을 부각하였다. 남만 태자와 양신청은 충효를, 월향은 충의를, 구녀는 의열을 수호하는 보조인물로써 각각 대응되는 악인을 개과천선시켜 구제하거나 혹독한 징치를 겪도록 한다. 둘째, 주요한 사건을 진행하는 주체로 보조인물이 기능하기도 하였다. 대개의 고전소설에서는 중심인물이 핵심적인 역할을 담당한다. 그런데 이 작품에서는 보조인물에 의해 주된 사건이 전개되는 경우가 나타난다. 비복에 지나지 않는 장삼과 석낭이 그 역할을 담당하고 있는데, 이들이 존재하지 않았더라면 이 소설의 대표적 화소라고 말할 수 있는 중심인물의결연조차 이루어지지않았을것이다. 뿐만 아니라 주인공에대한 구제를 실행하기도 하고 후반부에 가서는 논리적인 사건 전개를 돕기도 하였다. 셋째, 중심 서사를 해학적으로 표현하는 역할 또한 보조인물이 담당하였다. 중심인물이희극적인 영역까지맡을 수는없는노릇이다. 아무리후대의영웅소설이라고하더라도 영웅인물의위엄은전형적인모습그대로지켜져야하므로웃음을유발할만한발언은보 조인물의 입을 통해 노출된다. 여기에서는 왕희평이 이러한 역할을 수행하는데, 주로 중심인물과관련된남장화소를희언의소재로삼는다. 이들이야기는 남녀주인공이 경험했던 주요 서사에서 비롯된 것인데, 모든 상황이 종료된 이후에 이러한 해학적 표현을 문면에 드러냄으로써 극적 재미를 추구하는 동시에 긴장감의 완화를 꾀하고 있다. <쌍주기연>은 선과 악을 대표하는 보조인물을 대조적으로 배치하여 교훈성을 부각하였다. 복선화음의 주제의식을 형상화함과 동시에, 일상적이고 평범한 인물이 승리하는 결말을 통해 독자에게 보다 현실적이고 명확한 메시지를 전달할 수 있었다. 또한 보조인물을사건전개의중심에두기도하여사실적인묘사가가능하였고작품의개연성을확보할수 있었다. 뿐만 아니라 보조인물의 해학적 발언을 통해 작품의 흥미성을 고양할 수 있었고, 이는 소설의 흥행에 긍정적인 영향으로 작용하였다

영문 초록

Ssangjugiyeon is a work that can be classified as a heroic novel or a ki-bong type(dramatic meeting between a man and woman) novel, which contains the story where a male character and female character form an alliance on the ground through a magic stone that is given by the sky, become separated soon after, overcomes each of their difficulties, and finally gather with all family members. The main storyline of classical novels is normally formed based on the main characters, however, this work uses various assistant characters in addition to the main characters, resulting in attaining a dramatic effect. First, the story creates a conflict by using confrontation between an evil assistant character and good assistant character, and in the end, the good that protects the traditional values of loyalty, filial piety, and fidelity prevails. Rather than placing the evildoer against the main character, the assistant characters were divided into good and bad, so that the characters would fight against the subjects in contrast with each, and the story clearly displayed the theme of didactic morality through the victory of the good characters in this fight. During this process, the evil assistant characters regret their faults and become incorporated into the order of the world pursued by the main character, which can be the lesson of the story. The story by which an ordinary assistant character makes efforts to pursue good despite of bearing difficulties has become a realistic model for readers. Second, the story uses the assistant characters, in addition to the main characters, to play an independent role in the development of the case. Because the assistant characters play a leading role, it was possible to add a realistic feel to the hero’s capabilities, to more realistically depict the alliance between the male and female characters, and to procure the probability of the narrative process. As a result, readers could meet with characters with various personalities by escaping the form possessed by main characters in classic novels. Third, an entertaining element has been added to the work by granting a comical function to certain assistant characters. Humorous expressions do not appear at all when the main story of the main characters unfold, however, once this situation ends, a comment by the assistant characters satirizing motif relating to the main character appears. This element allows readers to feel another type of fun through a method of alleviating tension without damaging the dignity of the main character.
