제2언어교육에서 활동이론의 적용에 대한 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 사회문화 이론의 하나인 활동이론이 제2언어 교육 분야에서 어떻게 적용될 수 있는지를 살펴본 연구이다. 활동이론은 인간의 활동을 맥락 속에서 살피고자 함으로써 학습을 환경과 분리된 관점에서 파악하고자 하는 전통적인 관점을 거부한다. 따라서 현재의 상황 조건 즉 맥락 속에서 어떻게 학습이 일어날 수 있는지를 파악하고자 하는데, 이 맥락 속에는 상징적 도구인 언어가 포함된다. 때문에 제2언어 교실에서 일어나는 상호작용의 맥락과 언어의 역할을 이해하는 데 유용하게 쓰일 수 있다. 또 활동이론은 사회적 학습 이론의 하나로 학습을 참여자들 사이에 일어나는 협력적인 활동을 통해 발생하는 변증법적 과정으로 이해한다. 그리고 이 협력 과정에서 발생하는 모순을 학습의 주요한 원동력으로 보고 이 모순이 어떻게 학습자들을 확장적 학습으로 이끄는지를 보여주고자 한다. 때문에 다양한 특성의 학습자를 아우르는 제2언어 교실에서 발생할 수 있는 갈등과 장애의 원인을 분석하는 분석틀로서 활용 가치가 있다. 또한 개별 학습자들의 활동 맥락을 분석함으로써 개별 학습자에 게 적합한 학습 설계를 제공할 수도 있을 것으로 기대된다.

영문 초록

This study examines how the Activity theory(AT), one of social culture theory, can be applied in the field of L2 learning and teaching. Recently, second language education emphasizes the practical and collaborative communication process that takes place among learners, which is in the same stream with the social cultural view of language as a tool. In addition, as the learners become the subjects of learning, the second language classroom has very individual and dynamic characteristics. Therefore, in order for teachers to design lessons suitable for individual situations, a framework for self-analysis of their classrooms is needed. In AT, learning is understood as a dialectical process that occurs through collaborative activities among participants, making it suitable for analyzing the individual and dynamic aspects of the learner-centered classroom. Also, by looking at the contradiction that occurs in the process of cooperation as the main driving force of learning, it shows us how this contradiction leads learners to expanded learning. AT refuses the traditional viewpoint of regarding learning as the isolated one from the environment and try to understand human activity in the context. It means that AT tries to grasp how learning can occur in the current conditions in which the tool is included. Therefore, AT can be useful for understanding the role of language in the second language classroom. Futhermore, AT helps to understand what learning means in the context of learner s life, so is useful for designing learning system suitable for individual learner and can help to make learning practical.
