과학사를 활용한 자유탐구 프로그램이 초등학생의 가설설정 및 변인통제 능력에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 과학자의 사고과정이 드러나는 과학사를 활용하여 자유탐구를 지도하여 초등학생의 가설설정 및 변인통제 능력이 향상될 수 있는지를 연구하였다. 연구를 위해 경기도 D초등학교 5학년 학생 52명을 대상으로 실험집단에게는 과학사를 활용한 자유탐구 교육프로그램을 적용하였고, 통제집단은 교과서와 지도서대로 일반 자유탐구 교수·학습을 적용한 뒤 두 집단을 비교 분석하였다. 연구결과, 첫째, 과학사를 활용한 자유탐구 프로그램을 적용한 결과 TSPS검사에서 실험집단의 가설설정 능력 향상이 유의미하게 나타났다(p <.05). 이것은 프로그램에서 과학자의 탐구 과정을 이야기로 들려주어 간접경험을 하게하여 가설설정 능력이 개념적 탐구로 향상 되었다고 볼 수 있다. 둘째, 실험집단과 통제집단의 자유탐구 보고서에서 나타난 탐구 주제와 탐구 순서를 심층 분석한 결과, 실험집단의 탐구 주제에서 가설설정과정이 더 분명하게 드러나는 것을 알 수 있었다. 이것을 통해 과학사를 활용한 자유탐구 프로그램 적용이 가설설정 능력 향상에 영향을 미친다는 것을 재확인 하였다. 또한 TSPS검사에서는 실험집단의 변인통제 능력 향상이 나타나지 않았지만, 자유탐구 보고서의 탐구 순서에서 나타난 변인통제 과정은 실험집단이 통제집단보다 더 잘 나타나있었다. 결론적으로 본 연구에서 실시한 과학사를 활용한 자유탐구 프로그램은 초등학생의 통합 탐구 능력 중 가설설정 능력의 향상에 효과적이며 변인통제능력에도 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤다. 따라서 초등학생들에게도 적절한 자유탐구 프로그램을 고안하여 적용한다면 통합 탐구 능력이 향상될 수 있다고 판단된다.

영문 초록

This study analyzed whether variable controlling abilities and hypothesis generating abilities of elementary school students could be developed by open inquiry education program that uses science history. The program that uses science history was applied to experimental group which consisted of 26 students in fifth grade in D elementary school located in Gyeonggi Province while conventional open inquiry program in textbook was applied to 26 students in control group. The results of this study are as follows. First, as a result of open inquiry education program using the history of science, the hypothesis generating abilities in experimental group were improved.(p <.05) by using TSPS. The program helped students in understanding how scientists used their sience integrated process skills and performed experiments. This indirect experience through story about science had the hypothesis generating abilities develop into a conceptual investigation. Second, the process that establishes hypotheses was better organized in open inquiry report by experimental group than that by control group. This outcome proved again open inquiry education program can enhance student s hypothesis generating abilities. Meanwhile, in TSPS examination, experimental group s variable controlling abilities were not improved. However, in open inquiry report, experimental group showed better process that controls variables than did control group. In conclusion, open inquiry education program that was conducted in this study not only was effective in the improvement of student s hypothesis generating abilities but also had a positive effect on variable controlling abilities. Therefore, sience integrated process skill of elementary school students will be improved if a relevant open inquiry education program is developed and applied to them.
