문화역사활동이론을 통한 과학교사의 해외 봉사활동 분석

국문 초록

이 연구는 우리나라 과학교사들의 해외 봉사활동에 대해 질적 연구를 하는 것으 로, 2004년부터 2016년까지 동티모르에서 수행된 우리나라 과학교사들의 자발적인 봉사활동 현장의 모습을 기록하고 정리하며 분석하고 반성함으로써 과학교사의 봉사활동 수행에 도움을 주고자 하였다. 봉사활동을 기술하고 분석하며 종합할 수 있는 이론으로 문화역사활동이론(CHAT)을 사용하였다. 기초 자료를 조사․수집하여 동티모르 현지의 실정을 파악하였으며, 봉사활동에 사용된 교수활동 자료집, 실험 목록, 참여 교사들의 후기, 관련 보도 자료, 학회 발표 자료와 봉사활동 참여 교사들 과의 면담 등을 통해 동티모르 봉사활동에 대한 자료를 수집하였다. 수집한 자료에 대하여 2인의 저자가 각자 CHAT 분석을 수행하면서 합의해 나가는 과정을 거쳤다. 연구 결과, 봉사활동의 주체가 1인에서 20명 내외로 확장되며 다양화되면서 도구, 규칙, 커뮤니티, 객체도 확장되는 것을 볼 수 있었다. 커뮤니티를 구성하는 인간 자원의 역할을 확인하였으며, 도구가 봉사활동을 지원하기보다 제한하는 경우가 많음을 살펴보았고, 규칙이 발전되어 가며 구성원 사이에 역할분담이 이루어지는 것을 확인 하였다. 도구의 제약을 극복하기 위해 TOT(training of trainer)라는 새로운 규칙이 만들어지며 동티모르 교사가 강사의 역할(역할분담)을 하는 점이 특징이다. CHAT 분석의 이점과 문제점을 논의하였으며, CHAT 모형을 개선하기 위해 주체가 걸쳐 있다는 개념을 제안하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to provide qualitative research on the overseas volunteer activities of Korean science teachers in Timor-Leste from 2004 to 2016, so as to help the activities by recording, analyzing and reflecting on the volunteer activities. Cultural Historical Activity Theory (CHAT) was used as a theory to describe, analyze and synthesize volunteer activities. The basic information were collected and analyzed to identify the actual situation in Timor-Leste. And also, the authors collected data from teaching materials used in volunteer activities, experiments list, participants’ essays, related news, presentation materials for academic conferences, and interviewed participants in the volunteer activities. Two authors analyzed the data using CHAT model independently, and then discussed to negotiate the analysis. As a result, it was found that the subject of volunteer activities were expanded, and the tools, rules, community and objects were expanded as well. We found the role of human resources in the community and the tools were more restrictive than supportive to the volunteer activities, and the rules were developed and the division of labor was shared among the members. In order to overcome the constraints of the tool, a new rule called TOT (training of trainer) is developed, and the Timor-Leste teachers plays a role of lecturer (division of labor). We discussed the advantages and problems of CHAT analysis and suggested the concept of smudged subject to improve the CHAT model.
