교실내 원예활동이 초등학생의 사회성과 성취동기에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

본 연구는 교실내 원예활동 프로그램이 아동들의 학교생활 적응에 지대한 영향을 미칠 수 있는 사회성 발달과 자기 이해를 바탕으로 성취동기 향상에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 초등학교 5학년을 대상으로 실시한 결과 아래와 같다. 교실내 원예활동을 실시한 실험집단은 통제집단에 비하여 사회성의 하위요인인 준법성(p<.001), 협동성(p<.001), 사교성(p<.001) 및 자주성(p<.001) 모두에서 유의미하게 나타나 초등학생들의 사회성 발달에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 생각되었다. 그리고 실험집단의 사회성 변화도 사후검사시 사전검사에 비하여 준법성(p<.01), 협동성(p<.001), 사교성(p<.001) 및 자주성(p<.001) 모두에서 유의미하게 나타났다. 교실내 원예활동을 실시한 실험집단은 통제집단에 비하여 성취동기의 하위요인인 과업지향성(p<.001), 모험심(p<.001), 독립심(p<.001), 자신감(p<.001), 책임감(p<.001) 및 미래지향성(p<.001)모두에서 유의미하게 나타나 초등학생들의 성취동기 향상에도 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 생각되었다. 그리고 실험집단의 성취동기 변화도 사후검사시 사전검사에 비하여 과업지향성(p<.001), 모험심(p<.001), 독립심(p<.001), 자신감(p<.001), 책임감(p<.001) 및 미래지향성(p<.001) 모두에서 유의미하게 나타났다. 이와 같이 교실내 원예활동 프로그램이 초등학생들의 사회성 발달 및 성취동기 향상에 교육적 효과를 가져 올 수 있는 것으로 판단되었다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 교육현장에서 직접 적용될 수 있도록 많은 노력이 요구되며 초등학교 저학년부터 원예활동을 실시한다면 창의적 교육활동과 문제해결력 향상에 도움이 될 것으로 생각되었다. 따라서 초등학생들이 보다 쉽고 즐거운 학습활동이 되고 가정과 연계하여 적용시킬 수 있는 다양한 원예활동 프로그램의 개발이 요구되었다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to assess the effect of horticultural activities program on the development of sociality which could significantly affect students’ adaptation to school life and on the possible increase in self-awareness that might enhance students’ motivation to achieve more. This research targeted fifth graders in elementary school and the results are as follows. Compared to the control group, the experimental group that undertook the horticultural activities showed significantly higher development in sociality in the sub-element areas of law abiding attitude(p<.001), cooperation(p<.001), sociability(p<.001) and autonomy (p<.001). The activity demonstrably exerted a positive effect on the students. Change in sociality in the case of the experimental group when post-test results were compared to pre-test results was significantly higher when it comes to law abiding attitude (p<.01), sense of cooperation(p<.001), sociability (p<.001) and autonomy (p<.001). When motivation for achievement s sub elements, which are : orientation towards initiative(p<.001), sense of adventure(p<.001), independence(p<.001), self-confidence (p<.001), sense of responsibility(p<.001) and orientation towards the future (p<.001) are considered, the experimental group showed significantly higher results than the control group. A positive effect was manifested in terms of the elementary school students motivation for achievement enhancement as well. As for the change in the motivation for achievement for the experimental group, orientation towards initiative (p<.001), sense of adventure (p<.001), independence (p<.001), self-confidence (p<.001), sense of responsibility (p<.001) and orientation towards the future (p<.001) all showed significantly higher results during post-test compared to pre-test. In sum, horticultural activities program can be educationally effective for the development of elementary school students sociality and their enhancement of motivation to achieve. However, a lot of effort is required to apply these research results to the field of education. If these horticultural activities are started with younger elementary school students, they will be a great resource for creative educational activities and problem-solving capability enhancement. Accordingly, it is necessary to develop diverse programs for horticultural activities in order to make them much easier and more enjoyable learning activities for the elementary school students, and link them with their homes.
