대학 교양교육과정으로서의 다문화 교육에 대한 요구

국문 초록

본 연구는 다문화 관련 대학의 교양교육과정에 대한 학생들의 요구도를 살펴보고, 바람직한 다문화교육과정을 개발하는 기초자료로 활용하고자 하는 목적이 있다. 우리 사회의 구조적 변화를 주도하고 있다고 볼 수 있는 다문화 현상은 이주노동자로부터 시작해서 2002년 이후 급격하게 증가한 국제결혼가정과, 북한 이탈 주민의 증가와 밀접한 관계가 있으며, 다문화 환경에서 대학의 교양교육과정의 개발에도 영향을 주고 있다. 본 연구는 다문화 현상이 반영된 대학의 교육과정 개발을 위하여 2009년 9월부터 2010년 3월초 까지 종합대학에 재학 중인 학생 432명과 교육대학에 재학 중인 학생 107명을 표집하여, 다문화 교육과정의 개발을 위한 요구도와 관련된 설문지를 배부, 수집하였으며, SPSS 프로그램을 이용하여 분석하였다. 조사결과에 따르면, 다문화 관련 활동의 참가여부나 다문화 가정 관련 경험 여부 등은 대학의 종류에 따라 통계적으로 유의미한 차이를 보이지 않았으며, 최근 사회의 변화에 따라 종합대학이나 교육대학학생들 모두 다문화 관련 교양강좌의 필요도는 매우 높은 수준에서 지각되고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 다문화 관련 활동에 대한 참여의사는 종합대학보다 교육대학 학생들이 더 많은 의지를 보였다. 이는 교육대학 학생들이 다문화 관련경험을 장래의 직업과 직접적으로 연결하고 있다는 점에서 시사하는 바가 있다. 종합대학과 교육대학 재학생들이 다문화 관련 교육 요구도는 여러 항목에서 차이점을 보였는데, 전체적으로 교육요구도가 교육대학 학생들에게 높게 나타났으며, 종합대학 학생들이 배우고 싶은 내용이 다문화 사회의 구성인으로서 가치나 문화 적응과 관련된 내용들이 상위 순위를 차지한 반면, 교육대학 학생들은 다문화 가정 자녀들의 특성과 가족관련 분야에 더 많은 관심을 갖고 있다는 점을 알수 있었다. 이는 종합대학과 교육대학의 학생들의 배경에 따라 교육내용의 구성에 차이를 보임을 증명 하였으며, 이에 적절한 교육과정의 개발이 요구된다고 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to access the educational needs in cultural diversity among the college students to develop the elective courses on the cultural diversity. To achieve the purpose, a data set drawn from a convenient sample with 432 university students and 107 teacher s college students was collected with a structured survey instrument developed by the primary investigators, and analyzed by using the SPSS statistical program. The results from this study revealed that some of participants already have exposed into the multi-culture environments through their personal experiences such as living abroad or having a international friends on campus or out campus. The most of participants expressed high levels of interests and needs in the course about cultural diversity. This study discriminated students needs in content arrangements in the cultural diversity course development. The urgent needs of teacher s college students were different from those of university students. While the university students wanted to learn about the cultural adjustment of their own in the other countries for their development or currier development, the teachers college students did to learn about the characteristics and situations of children from the multicultural families in Korea for their future job performances. Over all, the teachers college students showed higher levels of interests than the university students, especially in terms of understanding Korean diverse societies, family policy related to cultural diversity, and children from the families with the international marriages in Korea. The authors in this study suggested that the students multi-cultural experiences should be considered to diagnose students readiness for the course, and students diverse interests and needs should be reflected in the contents arrangements in developing the elective course in cultural diversity in higher education.
