미국 초·중등학교 교양농업교육의 최근 동향

국문 초록

이 연구는 미국 초․중등학교 교양농업교육의 최근 동향을 교육과정에 의한 교양농업교육과 교육과정 외 교양농업교육으로 구분하여 분석하고, 우리나라 교양농업교육 운영을 위한 시사점을 얻는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이를 위하여 미국 교육부의 자료, 연구보고서 및 연구물, 농업부에서 운영하고 있는 AITC(Agriculture in the Classroom) 프로그램 등을 국가, 주, 그리고 단위 학교 수준으로 구분하여 분석하였다. 분석 대상으로는 교육과정에 의한 교양농업교육을 위하여 미국의 주 중에서 효율적으로 운영되고 있는 플로리다와 매리랜드 주로 하였으며, 교육과정 외 교양농업교육을 위해서는 AITC가 적극적으로 운영되는 플로리다와 일리노이 주로 하였다. 이러한 분석을 통하여 도출된 우리나라 교양농업교육을 위한 시사점은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 학교 교양농업교육은 교육과정에 의한 교육과 교육과정 외 프로그램의 상호 유기적으로 연계되도록 하고, 프로그램 운영에 요구되는 교사의 역량을 개발할 수 있도록 직무연수를 의무화할 필요가 있다. 둘째, 학교 교양농업교육은 교육과정 외 프로그램과 유기적으로 연계하기 위하여 학교 교육과정 운영 계획에 유연성을 부여할 필요가 있다. 셋째, 학교, 정부 부처, 유관 기관 등은 교육과정에 의한 학교 교양농업교육이 활성화될 수 있도록 교사와 학생을 위한 풍부한 교수․학습 자료를 개발하고 지원해야 할 것이다. 넷째, 농림축산식품부와 같은 정부부처는 교육과정에 의한 학교 교양농업교육을 활성화하기 위하여 교양농업교육 관련 연구, 워크숍, 학술대회, 경진대회 등을 연차적으로 추진할 수 있는 하부 조직을 운영할 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

This study was performed for analyzing recent trends of general agricultural education in U.S. elementary․secondary schools and deriving the implications for it in Korea through discussion. For this, it was carried out review of literature and content analysis using the educational materials, research reports of the USDE(U.S. Department of Education) and AITC(Agriculture in the Classroom) program of USDA(U.S. Department of Agriculture). The objects of analysis were Florida, Maryland, and Illinois states which represent general agricultural education and AITC program. The major implications of the study were as follows; First, general agricultural education in schools needs organic cross-linking between the curriculum and program outside the curriculum. Second, general agricultural education in schools need to be given greater flexibility in curriculum planning for organic cross-linking with program outside the curriculum. Third, schools, government departments, and related organizations will develop and support various teaching․learning materials for teachers and students in order to activate general agricultural education in schools by the curriculum. Fourth, government departments such as Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries may have to manage the sub-organization that is able to promote research, workshop, conference, competition related to general agricultural education in order to activate general agricultural education in schools by the curriculum.
