영문 초록

The public sector at the local level in the United States, has been experiencing serious fiscal difficulty since the early 1980s. As a result, public sector managers have had growing interest in productivity improvements to counter fiscal stress. However, few studies have been made about cross-jurisdictional productivity assessment for public sector due to the difficulty of its measurement. Thus, through the empirical study on the sizes of city population and administrative productivity, this study is intended to help local managers learn and use the concept of productivity improvement for the efficient and effective management of local government. In relation to the sizes of city population, this study expects that there would be somewhat significant mean differences of administrative productivity among different city sizes. That is, the planning-related function is more productive in smaller sized cities than in larger cities. And the result of the study supports the hypothesis.
