영문 초록

The structure of production and factor demand for small and medium manufacturers in Kwangju-Chonnam region is analyzed using a three input translog cost function. Time series data of 1979-1990 combined with cross-sectional data corresponding to firm size are used. Small and medium manufacturers in Kwangju-Chonnam spend 80%, 16% and only 4% out of total direct production costs in material, labor and capital respectively. Thus, material is combined mainly with labor in the production implying a lower technological state of the region. The empirical results shows that capital and other inputs are complements and labor and material are substitutes. Further, complementarity between capital and other inputs decreases as the firm size increases.
