국문 초록

박목월의 시세계를 초기, 중기, 후기로 나누어 정리한다면 초기는 자연의 세계, 중기는 현실의 세계, 그리고 후기는 신앙의 세계로 정의할 수 있겠다. 초기에는 향토적 서정에 초점을 맞추었고, 중기에는 인간사의 애환에 중점을 두었으며, 후기에는 존재 탐구와 신앙 탐구에 몰입하는 자세를 보여주고 있다. 본고는 목월이 기독교적 세계관에 몰입하여 시작활동을 한 후기 시에 초점을 맞춰 유고 시집이자 종교시에 해당하는 『크고 부드러운 손』의 시편을 중심으로 시어가 함의하고 있는 성서적 모티브와 기독교적 상징을 살펴봄으로써 목월 시의 신성지향 연구에 일조하고자 한다. 목월의 기독교 시에서 주로 나타나는 이미지는 ‘어머니’, ‘문’, ‘잔디’이며 그것으로 표상된 세계는 모성적 신성, 구원의식, 그리고 낙원지향이다. 어머니는 목월의 삶에 영향을 끼친 인물 중의 하나이다. 어머니는 목월에게 삶의 모델, 신앙의 모델로서 모범의 전형이다. 따라서 목월에게 어머니는 신과 동일한 위치에서 존경과 경배의 대상이다. 이처럼 어머니에 대한 신성지향은 결과적으로 목월에게 부성적 신관 보다는 모성적 신관을 형성하게 하는 계기가 된다. 성서에 자주 등장하는 문은 구원, 그리스도, 천국 등을 상징한다. 목월 시에 등장하는 문도 동일한 이미지로 표상되고 있다. 일반적으로 문은 단절과 소통의 양면성을 지닌다. 문을 닫으면 폐쇄된 공간이 되고 열면 개방된 공간을 향하게 된다. 목월 시에서 문은 지상과 천상, 현실적 삶과 신앙적 삶의 경계를 가르는 통로로서 작용한다. 누구나 문을 열고 들어오면 천상의 삶, 즉 구원받은 자의 축복과 은총이라는 영광을 누릴 수 있다. 그러나 구원의 문에 들어가는 것은 인간의 의지가 아닌 신이 주신 은혜의 선물이기도 하다. 따라서 목월시에는 선택받은 자의 감사와 순종이 나타나기도 한다. 한편, 목월 시에서 구원의 문은 하늘나라의 문, 돌문, 장지문에 이르기까지 다양하게 제시된다. 마지막으로 낙원지향이다. 목월의 기독교 시에서 낙원은 주로 잔디와 초원으로 표상되는데 지상에서는 태초의 낙원인 에덴동산으로, 천상에서는 기독교인의 본향인 천국으로 나타난다. 목월 시에서 잔디는 신과 함께 거하는 에덴동산으로 이어지고 그것이 궁극적으로는 ‘당신의 나라’, 즉 천국으로 시상이 확대되고 있음을 알 수 있다. 이처럼 목월은 삶의 최종 목표로 천국을 소망하고 있는데 이는 기독교인의 궁극적 목표라고 할 수 있다. 이상으로 목월의 기독교시에 나타난 신성지향을 어머니, 문, 잔디 이미지를 중심으로 살펴보았다. 박목월은 말년에 구도자의 자세로 기독교 시를 썼다. 본고가 목월의 기독교시 논의에 일조했으면 하는 바람이다.

영문 초록

Mok-wol Park’s poems can be divided as the early part, the middle part, and the late part. The early part is focused on Nature, the middle part is concentrated on Human and Reality, and the late part is centered on God The aim of this paper is to study Mok-wol Park’s Christian poems with his posthumous collection of poems as the center in order to examine Christian view of the world. The poetic words in his poems are focused on Christian symbols for this. The poetic words in his poems are mother, door, and grass. The words are emblematic of the root of faith, salvation, and paradise. His mother is the powerful person in his life, especially his christian faith. She is a role model of life and faith. Therefore mother is respected by him, the way that God is respected by him. Under the influence of mother, Mok-wol regards God as mother not father. The door in bible symbolizes salvation, Jesus Christ, heaven and so on. The door in Mok-wol’s poems is same meaning as the door in bible. Generally, door appears as double-sidedness of divorce and interchange, closeness and openness. The door in his poems is a passage of ground and heaven, life and faith. One can be in a state of blessing and grace, if (s)he opens the door. But opening the door of salvation is not by human’s will but by God’s present. So there are gratitude and obedience for God in his poems. Meanwhile the door of salvation in Mok-wol’s poems appears as the door of heaven, stone door, and paper sliding door. Lastly, paradise in Mok-wol’s poems is largely symbolized as grass or meadow. And paradise is subdivided into the garden of Eden and heaven. When Mok-wol sees the grass or the meadow, he expands his poetic imagination. That is, the space is symbolized as the garden of Eden and heaven with God. Like this, Mok-wol desires heaven where all the christians want to go. Mok-wol Park is a poet who write the poems in an attitude of prayer. I hope that I contribute to the study of his christian poems.
