<단산별곡>의 작품 실상과 현대적 의미

국문 초록

<단산별곡>은 신광수가 단양팔경을 유람하고, 영월부사로 재임 중이던 1773년 혹은 1774년 가을에 창작한 작품으로 추정된다. 작품은 총 99행의 기행가사로서 3대단 15소단으로 구성되어 있다. 율격을 보면, 3·4조의 율격을 주로 취하고, 그 밖에 다른 율격도 활용함으로써 율동의 발현과 아름다움을 적극 추구하고 있다. 그리고 작품 서사·결사의 분량이 각각 9.09%, 10.1%로, 작품의 구성이 매우 안정적이다. <단산별곡>은 <관동별곡>(鄭澈, 1580)을 전범으로 하여 작품을 창작하였다. 그것은 ‘별곡’이라는 용어를 붙여 작품의 제목을 삼은 것과, 유람의 출발을 알리는 구절에 있어서의 문장구조 측면이나, 작품 결사에서의 꿈 소재 활용의 측면에서 우선적으로 확인이 된다. 그리고 다양한 수사법의 활용면에서 확인할 수 있는데, 각종 수사법이 단독으로, 혹은 복합적으로 사용되어 표현의 효과를 극대화하고 있다. <단산별곡>은 작자의식의 측면에서도 <관동별곡>이 그러했던 것처럼 도교사상과 풍류, 그리고 유교적 치자의식을 드러낸다. 작자는 각종 선어로써 자신이 접한 경물을 노래하며, 때로는 특정 경관을 신선의 거처로 노래하거나 선경화 한다. 그러다가 거기서 술과 음악이 동반된 풍류로 나아간다. <단산별곡>을 보면, 백성들을 불노불사의 이상향에서 살게 하고 싶은 마음을 드러내거나 서원이 행한 덕화를 언급하여 유교적 치자의식 또한 드러낸다. <단산별곡>은 ‘기호지방 가사’의 범주에 드는 가사로서, 단양팔경을 상세하게 노래하였다. 작품의 문학적 실상과 작자 의식의 측면에서 볼 때, 현재의 우리가 감상해도 충분할 만큼, 그 작품적 가치를 높게 평가할 수 있다. 또한 <단산별곡>을 통해 충주댐 건설 이전의 단양팔경의 과거 모습이나 유람길을 확인할 수 있고, 여기서 촉발된 과거 문인의 감흥을 만날 수 있다는 점이 매우 의미가 있다. <단산별곡>은 과거의 단양팔경을 보여주는 귀중한 자료로서, 단양 문화해설사의 매우 유익한 해설 자료로서 활용될 수 있으리라 본다. 이 밖에도 단양을 소개하는 스토리텔링의 자료로서도 충분하고, 기행가사를 대표하는 교육 자료로서 교육 현장에서 널리 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

It is presumed that Dansanbyeolgok was created by Shin, Kwang-su in the autumn of 1773 or 1774, during which Shin, Kwang-su made a tour of Eight Views of Danyang and took a post of Yeongwol Busa. Dansanbyeolgok is a travel verse including a total of 99 lines. Looking into its meter, it adopts mostly the meter of 3.4 syllable-cadence, and the author is aggressively in pursuit of rhythmical manifestation & beauty by utilizing the other meters. In addition, the quantity of introductory description and closing description account for 9.09% and 10.1% of the work contents respectively, showing a very stable work composition. Dansanbyeolgok was created with Gwandongbyeolgok as a classic, which is preferentially identified by the fact that the work title was named by adding the term of 'Byeolgok', and the aspect of sentence structure in the phrase informing his departure for sightseeing as well as the aspect of application of dream materials in closing description of the work. In addition, such a fact can be confirmed by the application of diverse rhetoric. Even from the aspect of writer consciousness, Dansanbyeolgok is exposing Taoist thinking, Pungryu, and Confucian ruler consciousness just as did Gwangdongbyeolgok. The writer recites the scenery consequent on seasonal changes, which he encountered, using various mystic words, and sometimes recites a specific landscape as a dwelling place of a Taoist hermit, or depicts it as a fairyland. Then, the writer moves towards Pungryu accompanied by liquor and music. The writer exposes his mind wishing to get the people to live in Utopia free of aging and death, or also exposes Confucian ruler consciousness by mentioning the moral influence exercised by Seowon. In terms of literary reality of the work, and writer consciousness, Dansanbyeolgok can be highly evaluated in the value of a work as much as we of this time can appreciate it. In addition, through Dansanbyeolgok, it's possible to identify the past appearance of the Eight views of Danyang before Chungju Dam Construction, or hiking trails; in particular, it's very significant to contact the poetic inspiration of the past literary person sparked off by the Eight views of Danyang. It is thought that Dansangbyeolgok, as a precious material showing the past eight great views of Danyang, could be utilized as a very beneficial explanatory material for a commentator of Danyang culture. Besides, this work is enough to be used as a storytelling material for introducing Danyang, and also could be widely used as an educational material representing a travel verse in the educational field.
