국문 초록

박범신의 『은교』는 노년소설로 노시인 ‘이적요’의 소외와 죽음을 그리고 있다. 이적요는 노년에 이르러 그간의 자신의 구성된 이미지를 떨치고 새로운 노년의 역사를 감행하고 꿈꿀 수 있을 것이라 믿었으나 실패한다. 다양한 문화능력을 갖춘 대시인 이적요는 제자에 대한 연민과 세상의 허위를 깨부수려는 호기로운 결단으로 제자를 표절시켜 등단시키는 범죄를 행한다. 이는 외로운 독거노인인 이적요가 가족관계를 맺고 있는 제자와의 ‘친밀성의 거래’ 관계를 그 기저에 깔고 있는 것이다. 하나, 이적요의 과시적 시혜는 경계 무화의 새로운 폭력을 불러들인다.‘은교’가 매개되며 욕망에 사로잡힌 ‘서지우’의 분열이 가속화되면서 두 사람은 스승/제자, 아버지/아들, 시혜자/수혜자의 친밀한 관계에서 주인/노예, 정신/육체, 늙은이/젊은이, 가진 자/못가진 자인 대립적 관계로 변질된다. 젊음과 성적 향유라는 일방적 젠더 논리로 젊음/늙음, 서지우/이적요, 향유자/불능자, 아름다움/추함으로 재단한다. 자신의 정체를 이적요에 의지하고 있는 서지우는 그를‘늙은이’로 부정하고 그의 원고를 훔쳐 발표하는 범죄를 저지른다. 이에 이적요는‘처녀’라는 탈이데올로기 담지체를 호출하고 노인의 노회함을 다해 저항한다. 이적요의 소외와 훼손이 서지우의 독단에서 그치지 않고 그의 집 안/밖을 비롯한 도시 전반에서 이루어지는‘상식’이라는 데에 문제의 심각함이 있다. 이는 공간적 메타포로 확장, 재현되는 데 생활세계 전반에 도사린 노인배제와 폄하의 이데올로기인 문화적 폭력임을 알게 한다. 이적요의 서지우에 대한 살해 의도는 이 모든‘범죄자들’에 대한 분노와 저항이다. 이를 통해 작가는 욕망의 윤리를 재고하고 남녀노소가 공존할 문화정치의 해법을 모색하게 한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to discuss the cultural politics of the old age and gender by focusing on Park Beom-sin's novel about the old age, that is, 『Eungyo』. This novel represents tense power relations between an old man,‘Lee Jeok-yo’and a young man,‘Seo Ji-woo’. In the novel, incidents involving the two men and their truths are intervened in or revealed by another two characters,‘Eungyo’and‘lawyer Q’.Relationship between Lee Jeok-yo and Seo Ji-woo changes over time from master/disciple, father/son or provider/beneficiary to master/slave, mind/body, the old/the young or the have/the have-not. Thus, the two men of same gender confront with each other. Despite he is a main protagonist, Lee Jeok-yo falls into being other person only because he is old and sick. In the novel, unconditional exclusion of old people blocks and isolates Lee Jeok-yo who has even more cultural capabilities and unique personality. Park Beom-sin attracts attention to the otherness of old age by representing it with a character, Lee Jeok-yo who are very sensitive enough not to be just considered an old person. The novelist criticizes there's a cultural mechanism in which dichotomy between the old and the young and exclusion of old people are taken for granted. This study sought to find solutions to the isolation of Lee Jeok-yo who goes beyond borders between anxiety and death and his will to kill from the perspective of cultural politics. This move would help directly understand the reality and desire of the old age and overcome the dimensions of prevalent exclusiveness and social violence against old people, newly establishing a cultural horizon in which communication and coexistence with old people and the ethics of desire for them are recognized.
