국문 초록

소설은 시대의 가장 강력한 이데올로기나 의식을 대변하기도 하지만 주변부의 목소리나 무의식을 담기도 한다. 이처럼 소설이 욕망의 다층적인 스펙트럼을 분출하는 역할을 하는 것이라면, <구운몽>은 바로 이러한 소설의 역할을 극명하게 보여주는 텍스트라고 할 수 있다. 본 연구의 목표는 <구운몽>의 기저에 흐르는 또 다른 의미 층위에 주목하여 중층적 담론화 양상을 살펴보는 것이다. <구운몽>의 주도적 플롯에서는 가문창달과 유교적 입신양명이 강화되어 있지만 그 이면에는 주도적 플롯과 다른 목소리가 존재한다. 그것은 유교적 가부장적 의식에서 벗어나려는 이질적인 목소리로 나타난다. <구운몽>의 부차적 플롯에 나타나는 이질적인 목소리는 양가적 인물의 형상화, 여성 인물의 자매애적 친밀감, 남성적 권위의 희화화, 남성 인물의 애정 행각에 대한 이중적 태도로 좌표화된다. 이러한 좌표를 통해 유교적 가부장적 의식의 강요에서 일탈하려는 또 하나의 움직임을 찾을 수 있게 되며 이것은 <구운몽>의 대항 담론을 형성하게 된다. <구운몽>의 대항 담론은 유기적이거나 연속적인 플롯으로 그 의미를 드러내지는 않지만 텍스트에 반복적인 양상으로 나타나 지배 담론을 비판하거나 지배 담론에서 드러내지 못했던 <구운몽>의 무의식을 말한다. 곧 부차적 플롯에서 말하고 있는 것은 여성적 욕망의 응시와 표출이며 가부장적 사회의 강압적 힘에 대한 저항적 태도이다. 이것은 <구운몽>의 주도적 플롯에서 강조하는 것과 반대되는 대항 담론을 형성하게 된다. <구운몽>의 지배 담론은 가부장제의 질서를 수용하고 확대 재생산하는 방향으로 나아가지만 대항 담론은 이러한 지배 담론의 허상을 공격하고 그 사이에서 소외되어 있던 이질적인 목소리를 산출한다. 그러므로 <구운몽>은 표면적으로는 조선조 사회의 지배 이데올로기를 강화하고 있지만 이면적으로는 여성의 욕망을 드러내고자 하고, 가부장제의 허상에 대한 비판을 드러내는 중층적인 담론이 길항하고 있는 텍스트가 된다. 지배 담론은 대항 담론의 외부에서 대항 담론을 억압하고 있지만, 대항 담론은 지배 담론을 견제하기도 한다. 이러한 <구운몽>의 중층적 담론화 양상은 텍스트의 의미를 열어놓는 원동력이 된다.

영문 초록

This study aims to actively discuss the hidden plots in Guwunmong to identify the nature of their multi-layered discourses. The apparent plots in Guwunmong strongly advocate the concepts of prosperity of the family and attainment of fame for self. However, the hidden plots can be seen to criticize the patricentric mentality of Confucianism and show attempts to escape from it. While dominating plot in Guwunmong strongly advocates the Confucian concepts of prosperity of one's family and attainment of fame for self, the story also contains a voice opposing the dominating plot. It is the heterogeneous voice with an intent to escape from the Confucian patricentric way of thinking. The heterogeneous voice of Guwunmong is reflected from the dual attitudes about double-valued preferences of characters, homosexual intimacy of women, caricaturizing of the male authority, and romantic acts of male characters. Double-valued preferences of characters show inversion of sex roles, such as feminization of the male and masculinization of the female. This brings out the passiveness and sensitivity of the male characters activeness and strength of the female characters. The females choose males as the object of their sexual gratification. Double-valued preferences of characters, like feminization of the male and masculinization of the female, can be seen as an invented exit for pleasure that allows free expression of the suppressed female desires. The homosexual intimacy of the female characters also needs, to be reinterpreted. The homosexual intimacy of the female characters in Guwunmong, in essence, reduces the actual importance of the male's existence. Females are not recognized by their husbands but their fellow female friends. This leads to weakened representation of the male roles, which is a part of the opposing voice that exposes the reality of the patriachism. The homosexual union among the females is nullifying the importance of the males as the heads of the families. Also, the "cheatings" reflected in conspiracies of the characters and the author are caricaturing the male authority. This actually goes in direct opposition against the intensions and significances of the dominating plot and shows some disagreement. Males are apparently described as the perfect holders of authority in the families, but in some parts males are seen as being laughed at for being unlearned and foolish. Such dual perspectives can be seen as accepting the patricentric family system of the time and yet wanting to deny the system itself. In the same line with caricaturizing of the male authority, the romantic acts and the womanizing lifestyle of the male characters are worth noting for their dual attitudes. The dominating logic of the story advocates that there is nothing wrong about males being liberal as far as the patricentric values are concerned, but Guwunmong also contains another perspective that views this notion negatively. In other words, Guwunmong contains two opposing perspectives, that liberalness of the males can be justified and also that such notion should be viewed critically. As such, Guwunmong shows dominating discourses in apparent plots and shows opposing discourses in hidden plots, effectively constituting multi-layered discourses in itself. While the dominating discourses are oppressing the opposing discourses at the superficial level, the opposing discourses are restraining the dominating discourses. Such nature of the multi-layered discourses in Guwunmong acts as the driving force to open the meanings of the text.
