국문 초록

이 글의 목적은 윤곤강 시의 '동물 표상'에 주목하여 그 활용 방식과 특성을 살피고, 그것이 시의 주제 의식을 드러내는 주요 기제였음을 입증하려는 것이다. 곤강의 동물 시편이 해방 이전의 시사(詩史)에서 차자하는 위상은 독보적인 면이 있다. 비유적 이미지나 시적 소재로서의 역할에 충실했던 동물 표상을 주제 의식을 구현하는 상징적 표상으로까지 확장시켰기 때문이다. 이런 맥락에서 동물 표상을 중심으로 살펴본 곤강 시편의 주제의식은 세 가지로 정리될 수 있다. 첫째, 정치적 경향성과 상징주의의 영향이 혼재했던 초기 시에서는 '가마귀', '배암', '고양이' 등의 동물 표상이 이념적 표상으로 활용되었다. 또한 집짐승 관련 표상들이 서정성을 담보한 정경(情景)의 창출에 활용되면서, 시대적 아픔을 반영한 비유적 이미지로 제시되는 경우가 많았다. 둘째, 『동물시집』 간행을 전후하여 '공작'. '낙타' 등의 외래종 동물이 시적 소재로 수렴되면서 사회 현실을 풍자적으로 묘사하고자 했다. 이 과정에서 동물원과 식민제국의 도시 경성을 연결시키는 독창적 시각이 제시되었지만 지속되지 못했다. 셋째, 곤강 시에 가장 많이 등장했던 '버레ㆍ곤충' 표상은 엄혹한 현실에 대응하는 식민지 지식인의 내적 고민을 반영하는 메타포로 읽을 수 있다. 특히 일회적인 소재의 범주를 넘어 지속적으로 활용된다는 점에서 윤곤강 시의 특질을 구성하는 핵심적인 요소라고 말할 수 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this article is to prove that the representation of animals was a important mechanism to show thematic consciousness of poetry and to categorize its application method by focusing on the representation of animals in the poems of Yun, Gongang. Characteristics of animal representation can be classified into three great points in the poems of Yun, Gongang, which were published before Korea's liberation in 1945. First, the representation of animals such as 'Gamagwi(Crow)', 'Baeam(Snake)', and Goyangi(Cat)' in his early poems was used as a ideological representation. In addition, representations relating to domestic animals were used to create scenes based on the lyricism and often described as a figurative image reflecting pain of the time. Second, around the publication of 『A collection of poems by animals』 exotic animal species such as 'Gongjak(Peafowl)' and 'Nakta(Camel)' were used in material for writing a poem and portrayed reality of society sarcastically. Third, the representation of 'BeoreㆍGonchung(insect)', which appeared in the most poems, can be seen as a metaphor reflecting inner concern of colonial intellectuals who were facing a harsh reality. This representation is the key to forming characteristics of poetry in Yun, Gongang's poems especially in a view to be used continually, not as one-off material for poems.
