<일본유람가>를 통해본 개화기 어휘의 특성

국문 초록

본 논문은 개화기 기행가사인 <일본유람가>에 나타나는 어휘 사용 양상을 바탕으로 개화기 어휘의 특징을 살펴보는 데 목적이 있다. <일본유람가>는 1895-1896년 일본에 사신으로 갔던 이태직이 지은 기행가사인데, 당시 국어 사용의 특징을 엿볼 만한 자료라는 점에서 주목된다. 실제로 <일본유람가>에 나타난 어휘의 조어나 사용상의 특징을 찾아내면 그것이 개화기 어휘에 접근하는 방편이 될 수 있다. 이를 감안하여 본고에서는 <일본유람가>의 어휘 사용 양상을 조어적 관점에서 유형화하고, 이를 바탕으로 개화기 어휘의 특징에 대해 살펴보았다. <일본유람가>에는 단일어의 분포가 파생어나 합성어에 비해 다양하지 못하다. 이는 한자문화의 영향으로 한자어에 우리말이 결합한 파생어와 합성어의 쓰임이 빈번했기 때문이다. 반면 파생어 및 합성어는 한자어 계열과 고유어 계열, 그리고 많지는 않지만 서양 외래어 계열의 어휘가 공존하면서 빈번히 사용되고 있다. 특히 '하다'와 결합한 파생어와 첩어형 합성어의 빈도가 상당히 높다. <일본유람가>의 어휘사용 양상을 바탕으로, 개화기 국어의 어휘적 특징을 크게 세 가지로 제시할 수 있다. 먼저 개화를 반영한 신어 사용이 많다는 점이다. 언어는 그 언어사회의 문화를 반영하기에 이는 당연한 결과라 하겠다. 둘째 합성어나 파생어의 사용빈도가 높다는 점이다. 곧 신조어를 만드는 과정에서 계열이 다른 어휘가 결합하여 제2, 제3의 신어를 형성하고 있다. 셋째 같은 형태의 어형을 반복하는 첩어형 어휘가 많다. 이는 어휘 반복으로 화자의 발화의도를 강조하기 위함으로 볼 수 있다. 이로 볼 때 <일본유람가>에 나타난 어휘 연구는 현대국어의 전신이라 할 수 있는 개화기 국어의 어휘 일면을 조감할 수 있다는 점에서 연구의 의의가 있다고 하겠다.

영문 초록

Daeilbonyuramga is a GihaengGasa made by Lee, TaeJik, who was a japanese envoy, in 1895-1896. This text is taken note as a material that has a characteristic of Korean usage at the time. So a word-formation or a characteristic of usage that is appeared in Daeilbonyuramga is found out, that is a approach method of enlightenment words. Therefore in this thesis, a words usage aspect of Daeilbonyuramga is typed from a word formational point of view. With a basis on this, it is considered of characteristic of enlightenment words. It is summarized as follows. 1. Daeilbonyuramga is a useful material that is considered of enlightenment words. This text is a GihangGasa, so it included a new culture and language variously. And it coincided with the characteristic of didactic genre which is a globalization of self. In addition, this text has enlightenment words in various kinds, because of sightseeing at Japan made progress of modern culture. So this text is suitable for studying enlightenment words. 2. The aspects of words usage that Daeilbonyuramga are classified with simple, derived and compound words, and then analyzed. In Daeilbonyuramga, the distribution of simple words are not various than that of a derived words or compound words. Because the influence of Chinese character culture, a derived words that Chinese combined Korean and compound words are used frequently. But derived words such as Chinese line and Korean line, the West loanword were used variously. Especially the derived words that plus '-hada' and compound words that is a repetitive use of the same words are variously used. 3. The characteristic of enlightenment words through Daeilbonyuramga is suggested as four types. First, there were many new words that reflected enlightenment. It is no wonder that language is reflected by the culture of that language society. Second, there were used frequently the derived and compound words. That is to say, in the process of making new words, a different affiliation words join together and make second or third new words. Third, There are plenty of a repetitive use of the same word. So, the utterance of vocabulary repetition has a pragmatic function that emphasize on speaker's utterance intention. And it is a prosody structure of four letter types.
