『左溪裒談』 所載詩話의 양상과 성격 연구

국문 초록

『左溪裒談』은 광해조 말부터 영조 연간에 이르는 약 250여 년 동안의 사대부에 대한 간략한 傳記 및 逸話, 詩話 등을 각 인물이 생존했던 시대 순서로 편차하고 있는 人物志 성격의 저술이다. 그 안에는 조선 중ㆍ후기 인물의 정치적, 사회적 행적과 사건에 대해 풍부한 역사적 정보 뿐 아니라 시화나 야담류와 같이 문학이나 기예와 관련한 담론 및 기이담, 해학 등 흥미로운 이야기를 담고 있고 있다는 점에서 자료적 가치가 크다. 본고는 『좌계부담』 소재 시화를 선별하여 그 양상과 특징에 대해 살펴본 것이다. 필자가 검토해 본 바, 『좌계부담』 내에 시화는 전체 기사의 30%를 차지하였다. 시화의 유형은 크게 품평류 시화와 일화류 시화로 나눠지는데, 품평류의 시화는 주로 시의 우열, 풍격, 형식의 완정성, 그리고 시인의 능력과 기상 등에 대해 언급하거나 비평하였다. 일화류의 시화는 시 자체의 이해, 감상의 기능보다는 서사의 보조적 역할로 시화가 설정되어 인물의 성향이나 일생을 보여주는 시를 소개하고 있거나, 輓詩 또는 '詩讖'이 된 시들을 수록하고 있었다. 이는 『좌계부담』이 專門詩話書가 아닌 人物誌 性格의 筆記類인 것과 관련이 깊다. 한편, 시화의 대상 시인들을 살펴봤을 때, 17세기 후반에서 18세기 초 중반까지 활동했던 시인이 전 체 시화의 절반을 넘는 비율을 차지한다는 점에서 좌계부담의 시화는 당대 漢詩史를 중시하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 저술 시점에 가까운 17세기 후반에서 18세기 당대 사대부의 시를 이해하는 데 도움을 준다. 또한 수록 인물의 당색을 살펴보았을 때, 색목에 구애가 적은 시화류임도 확인할 수 있었다. 편당에 편벽된 시를 폄하하는 가하면, 신분이나 당파와 관계없이 詩才가 있음을 높이 평가하는 모 습을 보였다. 곧, 본 시화는 당파에 대한 편협성 및 구애됨이 별로 없이 객관성을 담지하고 있다는 점에 서도 의의를 찾을 수 있다.

영문 초록

Jwagya-budam『左溪裒談』 is a book that describes concise biographies, anecdotes, and Sihwa about Sadaebu in order of year the authors lived during around 250 years from the late Reign of Gwanghaegun to Youngjo. This paper is focused on reviewing its aspects and meaning of literary criticism, that is to say contents related to Sihwa, among many contents of Jwagya-budam. Anecdotes and literary criticism associated with a poem and literature in Jwagya-budam correspond to 63 passus of a total of 211, about 30%. The category of Sihwa is divided into a criticism of poem, evaluation, and anecdotes. Sihwa of Jwagya-budam did not have great interest in terms of a criticism of poem. We cannot find the essence of poem or discussion on creative writing. The authors of the day was introduced and their works were evaluated. In addition, it was described according to poets and anecdotes about poetical composition. The characteristics and its meaning of this Sihwa were summed up as follows; first, it was confirmed that Sihwa of Jwagya-budam put emphasis on the history of Chinese poem of the day in that more than half of a total of Sihwa were poets who worked from the end of 17th century to the early years of 18th century. Thus, it helps us to understand the poem of Sadaebu of the day from the end of 17th century to the early years of 18th century near the time they wrote. Second, we can find its meaning in that it had objectivity without narrow-mindedness and adherence to a faction. It is observed that a poem that was one-sided to a faction was disparaged and a poetic genius regardless of a position or faction was highly appreciated. Third, Jwagya-budam is a kind of writing, not a professional book on Sihwa with a view point of record. So, it is confirmed that Jwagya-budam evaluated a poet and his poem and introduced Sihwa including a realistic content as a anecdote rather than a professional criticism of poems because Sihwa was used as an assistant means in order to explain in three dimension the character in the form of a biography of each person. There are many contents including a poet's spirit showing the measure of him, the future of poems associated with destiny of a poet, an elegy to express a person's life and sorrow. This characterizes Sihwa of Jwagya-budam.
