益齋 李齊賢의 表文 小考

국문 초록

익재 이제현은 표문이 '정묘하다'고 호평받았으나 이를 입증할만한 실질적인 연구가 없었다. 본 연구에서는 익재 사표의 '정묘함'과 '정형성'을 확인하기 위한 시도로써 익재 이제현의 표문 다섯 편을 분석하였다. 表文은 신하가 임금에게 올리는 글인 만큼 격식을 갖추고 내용이 충실해야 한다. 피상적이고 화려한 수식만을 지녀서는 안 되고 간결한 언어와 분명한 의도로 진심을 드러내어 설득력이 있어야 한다. 또한 청신한 언어로 미적인 효과를 드러내어 문채로움을 살려야 한다. 익재의 표문 5편 「謝聖旨表」, 「謝御衣酒表」, 「謝功臣號表」, 「謝銀字圓牌表」, 「孛兀兒扎宴後謝表」는 임금을 대신하여 원 황제에게 지어올린 것이다. 이 다섯 편의 표문은 감사의 뜻을 표하는 謝表에 해당한다. 당시의 고려와 원은 수평적이 아닌 수직적 관계였다. 우리는 표문의 내용을 통해 정치적으로 원의 세력구도 안에서 움직일 수밖에 없었던 고려의 현실을 엿볼 수 있으며, 표문의 형식적 비유와 수사를 통해 원 황제를 안심시키고 고려의 안녕과 이익을 확보하려 했던 고려의 처세를 짐작해 볼 수 있다. 표문은 변려문으로서 대우와 평측을 구성요건으로 한다. 익재의 사표는 四字句와 六字句, 특히 4ㆍ4調, 6ㆍ6調, 4ㆍ6 4ㆍ6調의 대우구가 주조를 이루고 있고, 數對가 두드러지며 94.2%의 對偶率을 보이고 있다. 또한 평측에 있어서도 평측의 준수 규정을 엄격히 지키는 '정형성'을 유지하고 있음을 볼 수 있다. 익재의 표문분석을 통해 우리는 익재가 형식과 내용을 우열로 보지 않고 조화의 측면으로 보았으며 표문에 있어서 격식을 엄격하게 지키는 '정묘함'을 추구하였음을 알 수 있다.

영문 초록

Pyomuns(one of the diplomatic documents for Chinese kings, a memorial to the Throne)of Ik-Jae, Lee Jaehyun were favorably received as 'elaborate', but there was no practical research to verify. In this study, 5 Pyomuns of Ik-Jae Lee Jaehyun were analyzed as the trial to identify the 'elaborateness' and 'conformality' of Ik-Jae's Sapyo(a gratitude letter for the King). Pyomun should have appropriate formality and faithful contents because it was submitted to the king by the courtier. It shouldn't have just superficial and showy embellishment but should have concise language and persuasive power showing true feelings with clear intention. Additionally, it should emphasize writing styles by demonstrating the aesthetic effects with new and fresh language. Five Ik-Jae's Pyomuns including 「Sasungjipyo」, 「Saeouijupyo」, 「Sagongshinhopyo」, 「Saeunjawonpyo」, 「Paeolahchalyeonhuesapho」were written and submitted to the Emperor of Yuan Dynasty on behalf of the king. These five Pyomuns are relevant with a Sapyo which expresses the gratitude to the King. At that time, Goryeo and Yuan Dynasty had vertical relations, not horizontal relations. Through the contents of the Pyomun, situations of Goryeo which had to act politically within the power structure can be identified, and living of Goryeo can be guessed which tried to ease the mind of the Emperor of Yuan Dynasty and secure the peace and profit of Goryeo with formal expression and rhetoric in the Pyomun. Pyomun has the components of contraposition and Pyeongcheuk(평측: different tones in which characters are pronounced in Chinese.) as a Byeonryeomun. Ik-Jae's Sapyos are mainly composed of four-character phrases and six-character phrases, especially 4ㆍ4, 6ㆍ6, 4ㆍ6 and 4ㆍ6 of contraposition phrases and show noticeable contrast of phrases and 94.2% of contraposition rate. Additionally regarding Pyeongcheuk, 'conformality' that strictly follows the rules in Pyeongcheuk can be identified. Through the analysis of Ik-Jae's Pyomun, it can be identified that Ik-Jae didn't see the formality and contents as the superiority but as a harmony and he pursue the 'elaborateness' which strictly follows the formality of Pyomun.
