미술수업을 통한 사회정의 교육의 실천에 관한 초등학교 교사들의 인식 조사

국문 초록

본 연구는 서울시내 3개 초등학교 교사들 (n=41)과 대구시내 3개 초등학교 교사들을 (n=59) 대상으로 서술형 설문지를 사용하여 미술수업을 통한 사회정의 교육의 실천에 관한 그들의 인식을 조사한 것이다. 사회정의가 학교미술수업을 통해서 어떻게 실천될 수 있는지를 알아보기 위해서는 초등교사의 미술교육과 사회정의에 대한 인식을 먼저 파악하는 것이 선행되어야 할 것이다. 나아가 교사가 미술수업을 통한 사회정의 교육의 실천여부를 어떻게 인식하고 있느냐에 따라서 교사교육에 관여하고 있는 미술교육자들이 초등학교 교사들을 어떻게 효과적으로 지도할 수 있는지를 가늠해 볼 수 있는 기준이 될 수 있다. 이 연구를 통해 알게 된 것들을 살펴 보면 교사들은 사회정의를 가르칠 수 있는 교육방법으로 토론학습 협동학습， 역할놀이, 신문학습이 효과적 일 수 있다고 대답하였다. 또한 사회 정의를 가르치기 위한 미술수업의 학습활동으로는 사회정의와 관련된 미술작품의 감상, 사회정의의 주제가 드러난 작품제작 활동 그리고 사회정의를 주제로 작풍을 제작한 작가들의 삶과 당시의 시대상을 연계하여 연구해 보는 것이 효과적일 수 있다고 대답하였다. 그리고 신문기사나 미술과 관련된 흥미 있는 사건이나 에피소드들을 사용하여 사회정의를 가르칠 수 있다는 의견도 다수의 교사들이 선호하는 방법으로 조사되었다.

영문 초록

The study examined teachers' perceptions of social justice in art education. through a questionnaire consisting of short essays. Forty-one teachers are from three elementary schools in Seoul and 59 teachers are from three elementary schools in Daegu. In order to investigate how social justice education can be executed in elementary school art classes. art educators first need to know how elementary classroom teachers perceive social justice in art education. Their perceptions and opinions may allow art educators to create more effective and efficient strategies for teaching pre-service and inservice elementary classroom teachers about social justice in art education. A few findings are disclosed from study data. Teachers answered that the most favored teaching methods of social justice in art education is class discussion and their second favored pedagogy is collaborative learning. Role playing methods take third place and newspaper in education (NIE) is fourth. When asked what useful art content for teaching social justice is. teacher answers ranked as follows: 1) art appreciation of socially just related artworks. 2) studio projects associated with social justice themes. and 3) research projects about artists who work for social justice as well as a study of their historical and contextual information in order to deeply understand how artworks and artists are influenced by society and culture. Interestingly, several teachers responded that issue and controversial-related news articles and anecdotes that relate to artworks and art history could be effective content as a means of teaching social justice.
