스토리텔링 연구의 성과와 과제

국문 초록

본고는 최근 학계의 관심이 집중되고 있는 스토리텔링 연구의 성과를 디지털 스토리텔링, 현실 공간의 스토리텔링, 문화산업 관련 등 세 분야로 나누어 그 연구 성과를 점검하고, 앞으로의 스토리텔링 연구가 나아가야 할 방향을 모색하고자 한 논문이다. 디지털 스토리텔링 분야 중 연구의 역사가 긴 사이버문학은 연구 성과 또한 적지 않아 연구 의의를 중심으로, 디지털 게임서사는 최근 집중적으로 축적된 성과를 시기별로, 디지털 공간의 스토리텔링 연구는 인터넷 신문, 인터넷 광고, 웹 뮤지엄, 디지털 에듀테인먼트 등 분야별로 그 성과를 점검하였다. 현실 공간의 스토리텔링 분야는 박물관이나 미술관의 스토리텔링과 축제나 테마파크 등에서 사용되는 스토리텔링에 관한 연구 성과를 정리하였다. 문화산업 관련 연구 성과는 스토리텔링 과정 중의 콘텐츠 변이 양상 연구, 스토리텔링이 갖는 문화산업으로서의 가치 연구, 스토리텔링 전문가를 양성 방안 연구 등을 점검하였다. 이러한 연구 성과에 대한 점검을 바탕으로 앞으로 스토리텔링 연구가 추구하여야 할 방향을 점검하였다. 그 구체적인 방안으로 스토리텔링 연구의 지속적이고 실제적인 발전을 위한 스토리텔링 연구의 시각 조정, 현황 중심으로 이루어져 온 스토리텔링 연구의 반성, 스토리텔링 활동과 그 결과물을 분석하는 이론적 틀의 구안, 상업적 성과 위주인 스토리텔링 연구의 인문학적 가치 지향 방안 모색, 스토리텔링에 관한 이론 연구에서 실제 제작으로의 관심 전환, 스토리텔링의 실제 경험을 공유하기 위한 데이터베이스 구축 등을 제시했다.

영문 초록

This paper reviews achievements in studies on storytelling, which has recently attracted attention from the academic world, by dividing it into three fields, digital storytelling, storytelling in the real world spaces, and cultural industry relatedness, and explores directions that research in storytelling should take in future. This study reviews the achievements in studies on cyber literature with focus on the significance of the studies, which has a long history of research among other fields of digital storytelling and has seen a considerable amount of achievements, the recently accumulated achievements in studies on digital game narratives in each period, and the achievements in studies on storytelling in digital spaces in each subfield including internet newspapers, internet advertisements, web museums, digital edutainment etc. As for storytelling in the real world spaces, this study summarizes the achievements in storytelling for museums and art halls, and for festivals and theme parks. And, as for the achievements related to the cultural industry, work on aspects of variations in contents in the course of storytelling, on values of storytelling as a field of the cultural industry, and on plans for the cultivation of storytelling experts. Based on the reviews of the achievements, this paper examines some directions that studies on storytelling should pursue. This paper proposes as concrete methods, adjustment of storytelling research for its continuous and practical development, reflections on storytelling studies that have been carried out with focus on trends, establishment of theoretical frameworks in which storytelling activities and their outcomes are analyzed, exploration of methods for the humanities oriented values of storytelling studies, bringing attention from theoretical work on storytelling to its practical production, construction of database for sharing actual experiences in storytelling.
