한국과 미국 발달장애 학생의 자기결정 능력 비교

국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 한국과 미국 발달장애 학생의 자기결정 능력을 비교하여 그 차이점을 밝히는데 있다. 연구 대상은 한국에 거주하는 발달장애 학생 87명과 미국 캘리포니아 주에 거주하는 발달장애 학생 86명이다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 발달장애 학생의 자기결정 능력은 국가별, 학교별로 집단 간에 의의 있는 차이를 보였으나 성별에는 차이가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 발달장애 학생의 국가별 비교에서 미국의 발달장애 학생이 한국의 발달장애 학생보다 자기결정 능력이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 또한 발달장애 학생의 학교별 비교에서 전공과(커뮤니티 칼리지) 학생이 고등부 학생보다 자기결정 능력이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 발달장애 학생 자기결정 능력의 하위영역인 자율성, 자기조정, 심리적 역량, 자아실현 영역 비교에서 국가 간에는 자기조정 영역만 차이가 없는 것으로 나타났고, 성별에는 심리적 역량 영역만 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났고, 학교별에는 자아실현 영역만 차이가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 자기결정능력 검사의 하위영역들 간 상관분석에서 한국 발달장애 학생은 자기조정과 심리적 역량, 심리적 역량과 자아실현, 자기조정과 자아실현 간에 상관이 있는 것으로 나타났고, 미국 발달장애 학생은 모든 영역들 간에 상관이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 결과를 바탕으로 선행연구와 관련하여 논의와 결론을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this quantitative study was to investigate differences of self-determination between individuals with developmental disabilities in South Korea and in the United States. A total of 173 individuals with developmental disabilities participated in this study, including 87 participants from South Korea and 86 participants from United States. As a result for self-determination skills of the individuals with developmental disabilities, first of all, there was a significant difference in the countries and school; however there was no difference in gender. Comparing the two countries, the participants from the United States results were higher than those in South Korea. When the schools were compared, the participants at post-secondary education were higher than those in secondary education. There were no differences between male and female comparing the genders. Second, the self-determination’s sub domains of the individual with developmental disabilities in South Korea and the United States varied by the countries, schools, and the gender. There was difference in comparing the countries and school in autonomy. There was no difference comparing by schools in self-regulation, however, there was no found difference in countries and the gender. For psychological empowerment, there was difference shown by the countries, schools and gender. When comparing self-realization, there was difference when comparing the countries, but no difference was found in school and gender. Third, the individuals with developmental disabilities in South Korea and the United States had correlation of self-determination skill’s sub-domains. The participants in South Korea had correlation between self-regulation and psychological empowerment, self-regulation and self-realization, and psychological empowerment and self-realization. Participants in the United States had correlation between all the sub-domains. Based on the results of investigating, this study has provided discussion and results related to the previous study.
