정현종 초기시에 나타난 시 쓰기 방식 연구

국문 초록

정현종은 1960년대 우리 시단의 한 특성인 미적 모더니티를 구현한 시인이다. 본고에서는 정현종 시세계를 전체적으로 조망하기 위한 첫 번째 단계로서 초기작인 『사물의 꿈』에 나타난 모더니티의 정체를 파악하고자 하였다. 모더니즘이 표방하는 부정의식과 새로움의 지향이 정현종 시에 드러나는 방식을 살펴봄으로써 정현종 시 쓰기에 나타난 고유한 형식적 특성과 의장(意匠)을 확인할 수 있다. 정현종의 시 쓰기 방식은 크게 인식 차원과 언술 차원으로 나누어 살펴볼 수 있다. 『사물의 꿈』의 시편들은 이미지 구현에 있어서 형태가 아닌 질료적 속성에 기인하고 있다. 이는 바슐라르의 물질적 상상력에 의한 것으로 사물의 제 속성에 대한 구체적인 표현일 뿐만 아니라 시적 주체의 의식을 명료히 하는 데에도 기여하고 있다. 또한 언술 차원에서의 환유적 구성은 시에 내재한 미적 저항의 방식으로서 새로운 구문 체계를 형성하고 있다. 이는 언어관을 지지하는 세계관에 대한 재확인이 필요한 부분이다. 정현종이 초기 시편을 통해 성취하고자 했던 것은 사물의 친연성과 개별성을 강조하면서 언어적 자의식 문제를 들춰내는 일이었다. 그리고 그것은 낯설고 새로운 시적 경험으로서 줄곧 영향을 발휘해왔다. 문학이 추구하는 미적 자율성은 결국 진보를 향해 있다. 부정을 향한 저항과 비판적 시선을 유지하면서 혁신을 거듭하는 것이 문학의 소임이기 때문이다. 이러한 차원에서 정현종의 『사물의 꿈』을 통해 그의 시 쓰기 방식을 이해하는 일은 우리 시의 ‘다시 새로워짐’에 대한 일련의 기대라 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

Jeong Hyeon-jong is the poet who realized the esthetic modernity, one of the characteristics of the world of Korean poetry in the 1960s. In this article, I tried to comprehend the identity of modernity shown in The Dream of Things, an early work of Jeong, as the first step to take the whole view of the world of Jeong Hyeon-jong’s poetry. We can confirm the unique formal traits and design shown in his poetry composition by examining the way that the negative awareness and the pursuit of novelty which modernism expresses are revealed through Jeong’s poetry. The method of Jeong’s poetry writing can be divided into two perspectives: awareness and explanation. The poems of The Dream of Things are attributed not to the formal properties but to the material properties in realization of images. It is caused by the material imagination of Bachelard. This not only means concrete expression of things’ own qualities but also contributes to confirm the consciousness of the poetic subject. In addition, the metonymic composition from the perspective of explanation forms the new sentence structure system as the esthetically resistant method intrinsic in his poetry. That is the essential part needing reconfirmation on the world view supporting the language view. What Jeong Hyeon-jong tried to achieve through his early poems was that he emphasized the affinity and individuality of things and exposed the matter of linguistic self-consciousness as well. And it has exercised an effect as a new and unfamiliar poetic experience so far. The esthetic autonomy literature pursues is towards progress in the end. The duty of literature is that they keep their critical and resistant eyes on corruption and innovate over and over. From this perspective, to understand his method of writing poetry through The Dream of Things can be said to be a kind of expectation about the ‘renewal’ of Korean poetry.
