인터넷 댓글에 나타난 ‘성기’ 관련 욕설의 변이형 고찰

국문 초록

이 연구는 사이버 공간에서 욕설의 사용 횟수뿐 아니라 종류가 급증하는 현상에 초점을 맞추어‘성기 관련 욕설의 변이형’을 분석하고 그 원인을 구명하는 데 목적이 있다. 한국어의 아름다운 모습을 파괴하는 주범으로 비난의 대상이 되고 있는‘욕설의 실태’를 정확히 파악해야 합리적이고 실질적인 대안을 마련할 수 있으리라는 판단에서이다. 인터넷 포털 사이트 ‘다음’에 게재된 신문기사 가운데 댓글이 300개 이상의 달린 것을 중심으로 성기 관련 욕설을 수집하여 변이형을 형태적 특징에 따라 구분하고 내용적 특징을 덧붙여 분석하였다. 변이형의 유형은 발생요인에 따라 금기어 회피형, 언어유희형, 어문규범 무지형 등으로 세분할 수 있다. 금기어 회피형은 인터넷 통신언어가 생기기 전부터 있었던 유형으로 금기어를 직접 언급하는 데 부담감을 줄이려는 차원에서 비롯된 것이다. 금칙어 회피형은 인터넷 통신언어가 보급되면서 생겨난 유형인데, 그 기원은 금기어 회피형에 있다고 할 수 있다. 다만, 금기어 회피가 자율적인면이 강한 데 반해 금칙어의 회피는 타율적이라는 데 차이가 있다. 언어유희형은 금기어 회피형보다도 오래되고 범위가 크다고 할 수 있다. 우리 민족은 예로부터 해학과 풍자를 즐겼는데, 그 실현방안의 하나가 바로 언어유희이다. 금기어의 상징인 ‘성기 관련 욕설’은 자연스레 언어유희 대상이 되었다. 어문규범의 회피형은 의도성 여부에 따라 세분할 수 있다. 의도성 회피형은 맞춤법과 같은 어문규범을 일부러 어김으로써 신선한 재미를 느끼거나 기성세대에 대한 저항의 수단으로 활용하는 유형인데, 주로 통신언어의 대화방에서 쉽게 확인할 수 있다. 비의도성 회피형은 어문규범의 무지에서 비롯한 것으로 단순한 오류라 할 수 있다. 이러한 유형들은 마지막 ‘비의도성 어문규범 회피형’을 제외하면 궁극적으로 ‘금기어 회피형’으로 통합된다는 것을 알 수 있다. ‘성기 변이형 욕설’은 아무리 상대를 비난하고 상처를 주기 위한 욕설이라도 가장 대표적인 금기어인 ‘성기’를 직접 언급하는 것은 부담이 될 수밖에 없다. 이를 위하여 형태를 변화시키거나, 언어유희(주로 동음이의에 의한 익살임)로 의미를 치환하거나 변화를 주는 등의 방법으로 금기어 사용의부담을 덜어내려고 한 데서 비롯하기 때문이다.

영문 초록

This study focused on the rapid increase of sorts of abusive words and the numbers of being used in the cyber space which lead us to think of the purpose of analyzing and to clear up the causes of “Variations of abusive words related to the genitalia”. It has been decided, to provide some rational and practical alternatives for the main culprit of destroying the beauty of Korean language, we need to comprehend the “truth of the abusive words”. We collected and analyzed the abusive words related to genitalia to classify the image and content characteristics from the 300 replies on a one of the articles which was published on internet portal side “Daum”. We subdivided the patterns of variations of main cause of occurrence into evasion of tabooed words, amusement of language and evasion of linguistic norms. Evasion of tabooed words begun before internet communication language has developed and has been used to decrease the pressure of direct mention of the tabooed word. Evasion of prohibited words arisen after internet communication language has developed and this origin can be included in evasion of tabooed words. However, evading the tabooed word is more of self-regulating whereas evading prohibited word is other-directed. Amusement of language has older histories and bigger range compared to evasion of tabooed word. Our people enjoyed humor and satire from ancient time and amusement of language has been a particular way to do so. “Abusive words related to genitalia” which is symbolic of tabooed words naturally became the subject of amusement of language. Evasion of linguistic can be separated according to the purposes. Evading purposely includes not using the orthography correctly to add freshness fun or using it to show resistance against the older generation through the online conversations which can be easily seen on online chatting rooms. Evading without purposely is a simple mistake occurred from ignorance of linguistic norms. Except the “evasion of linguistic norms without purpose”, rest of the types are eventually combined into “evasion of tabooed words”. “Abusive word of genitalia variation” is used to criticize and to hurt others but it has been a pressure to mention the “genitalia” directly which is a typical tabooed word. That is why we gave a small change and supplied with substitute of the meanings to decrease the pressure of using the tabooed words.
