키에르케고어의 ‘단독자’에서 나타나는 시민성 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 오늘날 시민사회의 성숙된 시민성을 위하여 키에르케고어의 ‘단독자’로서의 시민성의 밝은 면과 어두운 면을 밝혀 보고자 하는 데에 그 목적을 두고 수행되었다. 그러므로 본 연구에서는 키에르케고어가 활동했던 19세기 유럽 시민사회의 형성배경을 개관함과 아울러 시민사회에 대한 키에르케고어의 ‘단독자’의 시각에 따른 견해를 밝혀 보고, 동시대 사람인 그룬트비의 입장과 간략히 비교하였고, 이어서 ‘단독자’의 개념적 의의를 여러 측면에서 찾아 보았으며, 이에 따른 ‘단독자’의 시민성에서 드러나는 특성들을 밝고 어두운 측면에서 각각 조명해 보는 절차를 밟았다. 이상의 연구과정에 따른 결론을 다음과 같이 정리해 볼 수 있다. 첫째, ‘단독자’로서의 시민성에 내재되어 있는 종교관은 개방적으로 신 앞에 나아간다는 성격을 지니고 있어 포용적이며, 숙고하고 성찰하는 시민의식의 모범이 될 수 있다. 둘째, ‘단독자’로서의 시민성이 함유할 수 있는 독선주의적 성향을 보완하는 기준으로 그룬트비가 추구한 민중 중심의 공동체 윤리규범의 실천정신을 제시할 수 있다. 셋째, ‘단독자’로서의 신과의 대면에 이르기까지 철저한 윤리규범의 실천이 선행되지 않고는 ‘단독자’로서의 시민성은 자기만족적인 독선주의로 전락할 맹점을 지닐 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 키에르케고어의 ‘단독자’로서의 시민성에 내재된 어두운 측면을 보완할 수 있는 시민적 자세로서 자율성, 정의 등과 같은 윤리규범의 명확한 실천의 필요성을 제언하고자 한다.

영문 초록

This study was executed under the purpose of examining closely the bright and dark sides of the Kierkegaard’s solitary individual in order to search for today’s mature citizenship. The procedure of the study is as follows. In the first step, the formative background of European civil society in 19 century was outlined, and then the opinions of the civil society according to the viewpoint of Kierkegaard’s solitary individual and the conceptional meaning of ‘solitary individual’ were examined. In the second step, the bright and dark sides on the characters of solitary individual’s citizenship according to such examinations were reviewed. The results of the study is as follows. In the first place, the viewpoint of religion inherent in the Kierkegaard’s solitary individual will be a model of open, deliberative and retrospective citizen awareness. In the second place, the self-righteous inclination which can be included in the solitary individual’s citizenship will be complemented by the practical spirit of the ethics of people-centered community. In the third place, the citizenship of ‘solitary individual’ will have a spot which can be self-righteous. Finally in order to complement the spot as the dark side of the citizenship of Kierkegaard’s solitary individual the necessity of the distinctive practice of ethical norm can be proposed.
