국민국가의 동일성 구조와 그 균열 가능성

국문 초록

현월은 대표적인 재일 한인 소설가이다. 그의 작품 세계는 디아스포라의 시선을 바탕으로 근대 국민국가 체제에 대한 보편적 문제의식을 형상화한다는 점에서 연구의 가치가 있다. 대표작인 나쁜 소문 과 그늘의 집 에는 이러한 주제 의식이 잘 형상화되어 있다. 본고에서는 이 두 작품을 통해 현월이 제시하고 있는 국민국가 체제의 견고한 동일성 구조의 실체를 고찰하였다. 그리고 자신만의 실천원리를 통해 그 구조를 극복하려는 문제적 인물들의 강력한 의지에서 국민국가 체제의 완고함에 균열을 내는 가능성을 살펴보았다. 작품에서 형상화되는 재일 한인 집단촌은 주권자와 호모 사케르를 양산하는 방식으로 수직적ㆍ서열적 권력 구도를 구축한다. 이 구도는 집단촌 내부는 물론 외부에까지 촘촘하게 작동하면서 프랙탈화 되어 개인을 옭아맨다. 이는 근대 이후 지속적으로 확대ㆍ강화되고 있는 국민국가 시스템의 작동원리를 정확히 반영한다. 여기서 현월은 이 프랙탈 구조를 타파할 가능성을 집단 내 최하층민 마이너리티들의 강력한 자기원칙의 수행을 통한 기존 가치의 전복에서 찾고 있다. 「나쁜 소문」의 ‘뼈다귀’와 「그늘의 집」의 ‘서방’이 대표적 인물들이다. 이들은 주권자와 호모 사케르의 포함적 배제 관계를 수평적 관계로 해체하는 새로운 요소를 전면화한다. 이들의 행동 방식은 목적이 없고, 목적이 없기에 수단이 되지 않으며, 그렇기에 새롭다. 이러한 인물의 형상화를 통해 현월은 국민국가 체제의 권력구도가 드러내는 불합리성을 폭로하고 새로운 가능성을 모색한다.

영문 초록

Hyonyeol is a leading Korean-Japanese novelist. His works embody the critical mind about the universal problem which is modern nation-state faces on the basis of the diasporan point of view. It is worth studying in this part. His representative works “A Bad Rumor” and “The House in Shadow” are well stylized this topic. This study consider the firm self-identity structure of nation-state carefully through these two works. And the problematic characters in these works who create their own principals show the possibility of crack which can threaten the nation-state's arbitrary structure. The Korean town in the works embody the hierarchical ruling system which bring about Homo Sacer and sovereign. The system works tightly inside and outside of the town like fractal forms and restrains the village people. This situation reflect the operation principle of the national system which is constantly enlarged and reinforced. Hyonyeol looks forward to the possibility to break out this fractal structure and overturn the existing value by the minorities who live by their own rules. ‘Bone’ of the “A Bad Rumor” and ‘son-in-law’ of the “The House in Shadow” are two representative figures. They externalize the new elements which dissolve the hierarchy between Homo Sacer and sovereign. Their behavior does not have a purpose, so need not to be a means of purpose, and as such, they are new. Through this characters Hyonyeol tries to expose the illogicality of the system of the modern nationality and search for a creative potential.
