〈목주잡가〉의 창작 배경과 작품 세계

국문 초록

이 논문에서는 이재 황윤석의 연시조 작품인 〈목주잡가〉의 창작배경을 18세기 후반 향촌사대부로서의 위치와 당대의 정치ㆍ사회적 여건과 관련하여 고찰하고, 작품 분석을 통해 작품의 전반적인 성격과 작가의 의식세계를 논의하였다. 또 〈목주잡가〉의 구성방식을 고찰하여 연시조로서의 성격을 검토해 보았다. 황윤석 가문의 호남 정착과 생애를 통해 볼 때, 〈목주잡가〉는 그의 관직생활과 그를 둘러싼 가문의 운명과 밀접한 관련이 있는 것으로 드러났다. 이 작품은 그가 수령직인 목천현감에 부임한 시기에 지은 것으로, 처음으로 한 고을을 맡아 다스리게 됨으로써 자신의 역량을 발휘할 수 있는 좋은 기회로 인식하고 이런 계기를 통해 자신의 정치적 행보에 새로운 전환점을 마련하기 위해 창작한 것이다. 정치적으로 중요한 시기에 자신의 일생을 되돌아보고 삶의 자세를 재정립하는 계기를 갖기 위해 〈목주잡가〉를 창작한 것으로 보인다. 〈목주잡가〉의 작품세계를 고찰한 결과, 황윤석은 군은에 대한 감사와 보답의지, 목천현감 제수에 대한 감격과 기대감을 표출하고, 현실정치상황에 고민과 갈등을 겪고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 선조들이 호남에 정착하게 된 배경과 가문의 빛나는 내력을 제시하고 후손들이 선조의 유훈을 잘 계승하고 있다는 점을 강조하여 가문의식을 고양시키고자 하였다. 여기에는 개인적인 정체성 회복과 함께 이재 가문의 위상을 높이기 위한 의도가 담겨 있음을 살필 수 있었다. 또 성리학적 이념과 실천의 문제를 다루고 있었는데, 자신이 일생동안 매진하고 탐구했던 성리학적 세계관과 심성 수양의 자세에 대해 언급한 뒤 인성론에 바탕을 둔 실천적인 면모를 강조하고 있었다. 〈목주잡가〉의 시상 전개에서 일정한 구성 방식이나 원리를 찾을 수 있었는데, 황윤석 개인에서 출발하여 가족이나 가문으로 시상이 확대되는 방식을 기본 패턴으로 삼고, 이 방식은 세 가지 중심 내용이 전개되면서 반복적으로 나타나고 있었다. 황윤석은 연시조를 창작하는 과정에서 연시조의 형식보다 작품에 담을 내용과 그것을 전달하는 방식에 관심을 가졌던 것으로 판단된다.

영문 초록

This thesis gives careful consideration to the background of writing 〈Mokjujapga〉, a kind of traditional three verse stanza by written Hwang Yon Seok, connecting with the status of local noblemen, the social and political background of the latter of the 18th. The general characteristic of 〈Mokjujapga〉 and the consciousness of writer was heavily scrutinized through an in-depth analysis of this poem. Also by looking into the structures of 〈Mokjujapga〉, the universal characteristic of Yeonsijo was examined. Surveying the life of Hwang Yoon seok and the settlement of his family in Ho-nam area, it can be revealed that 〈Mokjujapga〉 was closely concerned with his government official life and his family destiny. He wrote this work while he was serving as top leader of Mokcheon, Mokcheon-hyongam. He governed an town for the first time and he thought this period as a good chance to show his ability. He created 〈Mokjujapga〉 to arrange new turning point for his political path. In 〈Mokjujapga〉, Hwang Yoon Seok expressed the gratitude for the king, his will to reward king's favor and an overwhelming moment of appointment as Mokcheon-hyongam. He displayed his agony over political state of that era, too. He intended to boost honor to his family by presenting the settlement background of his family in Ho-nam area and tracing his brilliant family origin, especially by emphasizing that his descendants inherited and followed the teachings left by his ancestors. In other words his intends to regain his identity and to enhance the status of his family were implied in this work. Also he dealt with the idea and practice of Neo-Confucianism to which he was devoted for his whole life. Above all he put emphasis on a practicing Neo-Confucianism which was based on building an upright character, referring to the Neo-Confucianism view of the world and the attitude toward developing one's mind. A certain way and principle in developing poetic concept could be found in 〈Mokjujapga〉. Hwang Yoon Seok used the basic pattern which starts from himself and reaches his family or his ancestors. He developed three main concepts by using the ways repeatedly. It could be concluded that he had much interest in conveying meaning of poem rather than the form of Yeonsijo.
