국문 초록

19세기 말 20세기 초는 서세동점의 위기를 진단하고 그 해결 방안을 모색하려는 담론이 무성하였다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 면모를 1900년대 무렵에 창작된 몽유록 작품을 통해 살펴보았다. 현실 인식의 방식은 몽유담 내에서 작자의 분신인 서술자가 특정 인물을 내세워 대화와 토론으로 현실의 위기를 파악하고 있는데, 그 내용은 조선 내부의 부조리한 측면과 외부의 서구 열강 및 일제의 침탈이었다. 이 시기 지식인은 각자가 처한 위치와 조건에 따라 그 대응 양상을 달리하여 각 작품에 구체화시켰다. 김광수는 일본의 침탈에는 매우 비판적인 태도를 취하면서도 근대 서구 문물에 대해서는 비판 없이 그 장점을 수용하려는 자세를 보였다. 유원표는 세계 정세의 변화를 누구보다도 정확하게 판단하였으며, 일본의 한국 침탈을 경계하면서도 아시아 연대론을 주장하였다. 박은식은 국권 상실을 완전히 경험한 뒤 만주로 망명하여 한국이 나아가야 할 방향에 대해 근본적인 반성을 한 결과 교육을 통하여 신국민을 양성하고 평등주의를 모색하였다. 세 사람이 처한 상황과 활동에 따라 현실 인식의 내용과 그 대처 방식에 차이가 있고, 또 그 나름대로 한계를 가지고 있는 것이 사실이다. 하지만 문학의 적극적인 현실 참여라든지 대화를 통하여 독자를 설득하려는 서술 전략을 마련하였다는 점에서는 긍정적인 평가를 내릴 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

There were many arguments to recognize the crisis that the Western countries had invaded the Eastern countries in the late 19th and the early 20th centuries. They tried to find out the solutions. This thesis is to analyze these arguments through dreaming story which was created in the 1900s. The narrator, the writer’s other self tried to comprehend the real danger through discussion and argument by a particular person in a story. This was the ways to cope with the urgent situations in those days. The urgent situations were the inner absurd aspects in Choseun Dynasty and many invasions by western countries, including Japan. Kim Gwang Sue had very critical attitude toward Japan Invasion. but he had positive attitude about western modernization and accepted them without any criticism. You Won Poo made an accurate judgement about the world’s changing wave. So he claimed that not only Asian countries should keep cooperative power against the Western power, but also the armed forces should be put on a special alert against Japan. Park Eun Shik came to Manju as an exile after he had experienced the loss of national rights. He took time for self-examination about the direction which Korea would move forward. Therefore, he made some conclusions that they had to produce the new people and create the equal opportunity in society. In accordance with three people’s situations and activities, they had different styles of reality recognition and confronting ways. It was clear that they had some limitations. But they got some positive valuation because they participated in reality positively through literal works and designed narrative strategy to persuade readers through conversation.
