영문 초록

The Purpose of the research is to analyze the original characteristics and functions of the Dochubje(도첩제) during the period between the Late Koryo dynasty and Early Chosun dynasty. According to Koryosa(高麗史) and Chosun dynasty Memoir(朝鮮王朝實錄), the original intension of Dochubje was to maintain the religious functions and control joining the Buddhist priest. However, in practice, the Dochubje was often abused for evil purposes like avoiding corvee by the low-class or common people. Consequently, the Dochubje was made the target of criticism and reformation. On examining documents related reforming policies in the early Chosun dynasty, one may find out that the reform was mainly concentrated on economic innovation and securing the labour-power of common people. Subsequently, this study, based on Chosun Dynasty Memoir and Koryosa, shows that the Dochubje had for its object to accomplish the ensuring labour-power of public engineering work, controlling Buddhist priest, and economic reformation of temples.
