대몽항전의 성격에 대하여

영문 초록

For about 30 years, Koryo people had been fighting against the Mongols, who infringed upon Koryo Kingdom so as to build a world-wide big empire. Until recently, Koryo’s oppositional activities to the Mongolian invaders used to be interpreted as an event for the Korean people to display their national consciousness, even though they could not avoid surrendering themselves to the Mongols. And in other respect, this losing war esteemed to be a historical and nationalistic event for the Koryo people to consolidate their national identity, uniting forces of soldiers, governmental officials, and local civilians and strenuously struggling against the foreign enemies. One thing we should remember is that lots of class-struggles can be historically proved during these Mongol opposition war period. In this paper, I have analysed several examples of these sorts of class-struggling conflicts in the Koryo society. For these reasons, I argue that it is not absolutely true that all Koryo people had been untied to fight against Mongol aggressors. Another thing especially noted in this paper is that the change of attitude among the lower class towards the war against Mongols. Around the time of Mongol invasion, lots of lower people were engaged with civilian oppositional activities. This can be said to some sort of class struggle. Meeting the foreign invaders of Mongols, socially-low class people in Koryo changed their attitude the local powerful families, such as the Choe’s. With this result, powerful family could be cooperative with the lower class people. This change shows that lower people put the highest point to the protection of their local community against foreign powers. With these two major acpects, the struggle of Koryo people against the Mongols should be understood as a community-protection efforts, jointly carried out by Koryo people, mainly composed of governmental officials and local residents of lower class.
