영문 초록

Although there are countless theories regarding the conception of the Korean celadon, scholars have yet to agree on a single theory. These theories can be divided into three general categories; early 9th century, late 9th century and early 10th century, and late 10th century. The basis for the underlying causes of problems in these theories are as follows: (1) misinterpretation of the bowl with a halo shaped foot (2) insufficient understanding of China’s Yue kilns, home of the Korean celadon (3) misunderstanding of the recently excavated Wonsan-Ni kiln and the great kiln of Bangsan. Although all three causes play some part in the three theories, (1) is attributed more to the early 9th century, (2) is to the late 9th century and early 10th century, and (3) is to the late 10th century. Recently, Jong-Mim Lee, Humio Kira, In-Gyu Kim and Young-Mi Kim have addressed the issue concerning the conception of Koryo celadon from various perspectives. Jong-Mim Lee’s research provides a deeper understanding of the great kiln of Bangsan and other Korean early celadon kilns. Humio Kira’s research explores the relationship between Korea’s early celadon and China’s Yaozhou kiln’s celadon. In-Gyu Kim and Young-Mi Kim’s researches address the issue regarding the conception of the Korean celadon by exploring the relationship between Korea’s early celadon kilns and China’s Yue kilns. Through the research results of these scholars, the beginning of the Korean celadon dates to the 10th century. Further research needs to be done on the relationship between the Korean bowl with a halo shaped foot and the Chinese doughnut shaped foot from various vantage points, comparison of the different shapes found in Korea’s early celadon with China’s Yue kiln celadon, and influence on Korea’s early celadon from factors outside of China’s Yue kiln. After fully researching these problems, the issue regarding the conception of the Korean celadon should be resolved.
