루마니아 문(門)의 상징성 연구

국문 초록

문과 문지방은 단순한 입구가 아니라 빛과 어둠, 세속과 신성 등 두 공간과 시간을 구별하는 상징성을 갖고 있어서 문을 지나가는 것 에는 육신과 정신의 정화가 강요된다. 그래서 문지방은 신성시되었으며 이는 집이 세계의 형상이며 신의 형상이 드러나는 곳이라는 믿음에서 기인된다. 따라서 이 문과 문지방에 대해서 각 민족마다 고유한 의례들을 갖고 있다. 루마니아의 출생의례에서는 문지방이 악령이 모이는 장소라고 생각되어 임산부에 대한 각종 금기들이 있고 임산부와 아이의 건강한 출산을 위해 문지방에 대한 예방조치들이 취해지고 있다. 또한 이와는 반대로 문지방은 조상들의 영혼이 거주하고 가족들의 에너지가 모이는 곳이라고 인식되어 산모를 보호하고 아이의 미래를 예언하는 주술적인 행위가 이루어진다. 가족생활의 의례 중 두 번째 중요한 통과의례인 결혼식에서 문지방과 문의 의례들은 새로운 가족으로의 통합을 준비하는 의례들이 벌어진다. 또한 다른 유럽 국가들에서도 보이는 것처럼 대문과 관련하여 가족의 미래를 위해 점치는 주술적 의미를 지닌 정화 의례가 루마니아 사람에게서도 나타난다. 또한 신부의 건강과 다산을 위한 의례도 문지방에서 이루어진다. 루마니아에서 문지방은 망자의 영혼이 사망하고 나서 잠시 거주하는 장소로 생각된다. 그래서 망자가 집에서 나올 때 문지방에서 가족들을 악령의 영향으로부터 안전하게하면서 보호하기위해 망자의 영혼이 가족들로부터 분리되는 특별한 장례의례가 열린다.

영문 초록

The gate and the threshold do not mean a simple gateway but they have a symbol that distinguishes between two spaces and times such as the light and the darkness, the mundane world, and the sanctity etc., therefore when somebody passes through a gate, it is forced to purify the body and the soul. According to this, the gate and the threshold were considered as sacred, based on the belief that the house is the world's shape and the place in which is revealed God's figure. So, every nation has native rites related to the gate and the threshold. On one side, the threshold is believed to be a place where the evil spirits gather together. Therefore diverse taboos appear upon the Romanian rite of birth and some people take preventable measeures suited to the pregnant women and the healthy birth of babies. On the other side, in opposition to that, the threshold is considered as a place where the ancestral spirits dwell and the family energy gathers together. Following, there are realized some incantatoty ceremonies which protect the pregnant women and predict the baby's future. In the wedding ceremony as the second important rite of passage among the family rites, the ceremonies related to the gate and the threshold mean to prepare the unity into the new family. Like some cases of the European countries, the rite of purification as a incantatory meaning which predicts the new family future appears also at the Romanian gates and on the thresholds. Besides, there it holds a ceremony for the health of bride and the fecundity. In Romania, the threshold is also considered as a place where the spirit of the deceased stays a short while after death. Accordingly, when the deceased get out of the house, Romanians hold, on the threshold, the special funeral rites which protect safely the family from the influence of the evil spirits and as well, separate favorably the spirit of the deceased from the family.
