국문 초록

서정시인 빠스쩨르나크가 쓴 소설 닥터 지바고에는 많은 이미 저리와 상징들과 은유들이 존재한다. 철도와 관련된 은유들은 ‘아버지와 아이들’과 “자연과 기계‘같은 주제들을 구현하는 중요한 역할을하고 있다. 빠스쩨르나크 시학에서 은유의 주요 기능이 ’유사성‘보다는 ’인접성‘에 기초한다는 시냐프스키의 관찰은 빠스쩨르나크가 시에 비해 더 많은 서술 공간이 확보된 소설이란 장르에서 은유의 사용을 확대시키고 있다는 점에서 철도의 모티브를 분석하는데 유용 하다. 지바고의 아버지를 포함하여 소설에 등장하는 아버지들의 죽음은 철도의 모티브와 관련이 있으며 이것은 아버지 세대의 부정적인 이미지로 전개된다. 꼬마로프스키는 그들 중 가장 좋은 본보기라고 할 수 있다. 부정적인 아버지상은 구세계를 대표하는 황제가 기차를 타고 등장하는 장면이나 귀족 사관 긴쯔가 역에서 살해되는 장면을 통하여 강조되고 있다. 이 소설에서 주인공 유리와 라라가 1905년 혁명에 동조하고 있으며 철도 노동자의 아들 세대인 빠샤 안찌포프와 찌베르진이 철도 노동자들의 시위에 참여하고 있는 것을 통해 구세계의 모순과 부조리를 시정하려는 아들 세대의 순수한 이상을 제시함으로써 빠스쩨르나크는 1905년 혁명을 긍정적으로 인식하고 있다.혁명이 진행되면서 혁명을 지지했던 아들 세대들의 모습은 분화된다. 철도의 모티브가 지바고와 연관되었을 때 그것은 자연과의 조화를 말한다. 지바고가 탄 열차는 자연의 아름다움과 평행을 이룬다. 전통적인 철도의 ‘힘’과 ‘속도’의 은유 대신에 기계와 자연의 평화스 러운 공존이 서정시인으로서 뛰어난 청음능력을 지닌 지바고의 모습을 통해 제시되고 있다. 빠샤 안찌포프는 반대의 경우를 제시한다. 철도의 모티브가 그와 연관되었을 때 그것은 혁명의 파괴적인 양상을 나타낸다. 빠샤의 비극은 라라에게 고통을 안겨다 준 구세계에 복수하기 위해 가족을 버리고 혁명에 뛰어들었다는 점에 있다. 자신의 위치를 자연과의 관계에서 찾는 대신에 빠샤는 비인간적인 기계화된 혁명에서 인생의 의미를 추구하다 파멸에 이르게 된다. 빠스쩨르나크가 닥터 지바고에서 철도의 모티브를 사용하고 있는 특징으로 우리는 그것이 똘쓰또이에서 보는 것과 같은 파괴의 상징도 아니고 체홉에서와 같이 선과 악의 이중정인 상징도 아니라는 것을 발견한다. 빠스쩨르나크의 시학에서 ‘인접성’의 원칙에 근거한철도 모티브의 의미는 그것이 인간과 자연과의 관계에서 어떤 위치에 있느냐에 따라 가변적이다. 그리고 그것은 이 소설에서 작가가 제시하고 있는 자연에 순응하는 인간의 삶이라는 인생관과 일치한다.

영문 초록

In , a novel by a lyrical poet, Pasternak, we find that it is abundant in imagery, symbols, and metaphors. The metaphors associated with the railroads embodies the major themes of the novel such as ‘Fathers and Sons’ and ‘The Machine and The Nature.’ Sinyavsky's observation that the chief function of metaphor in Pasternak's poetics is based on 'contiguity' rather than on ‘similarity’ can be applied to the analysis of the railway motif here in that Pasternak extends the use of metaphor in the novel where description space is more available than in his poetry. The death of fathers including Zhivago's, related to the railway leads to the negative role of father's generation. Komarovskii is one of the best examples. The railroad motif related to 19th century Russia such as decrepit image of a czar and the murder of Ginz alludes to Pasternak's positive perception of the Revolution in 1905 when the younger generation, Yuri and Lara supports it while Pasha Antipov and Ziverdin participates in the railworkers' strike in the street. As the Revolution develops, so son's generation breaks up. When the railroad motif is related to Zhivago, it is in harmony with nature. A train runs paralleled with nature's beauty. Instead of train's traditional metaphor of ‘power’ and ‘speed’, the peaceful accordance of machine with nature is presented in the novel throughout Zhivago's auditive gift as a lyrical poet like his creator. Pasha Antipov, as his name suggests, represents the opposite case. When the railroad motif is associated with him, it amplifies the destructive force of the Revolution. Pasha's tragedy originates from his decision to revenge the old world which brought personal sufferings to Lara, thus he abandons the family to join the Revolution. Instead of finding his place in relationship with nature, Pasha seeks the truth of life in the dehumanized, machine-like Revolution which leads to his catastrophe. In Pasternak's treatment of the railroad motif in , we find that it is neither the symbol of destruction in Tolstoy's nor the symbol of the good as well as of the bad in Chekhov's. In Pasternak's poetics, the various meaning of the railroad motif based on ‘contiguity’ in the novel comes from Pasternak's philosophy of life that all life is subject to the imminence of change so Man lives not with management of life but with response to the flux of life.
