육구연의 心本論과 天人一本의 강령

국문 초록

한자문화권에서 宋學의 의의라고 한다면 자아실현의 인간학적 지평을 열었다는 점이다. 그 학문체제인 道學은 바로 자아실현의 본질과 그 과정이 무엇인지를 밝혀놓은 것이다. 자아실현은 天人合一의 이념 하에서 內聖外王 혹은 皇極經世의 궁극적 단계를 성취하는 것을 목표로 한다. 육구연의 심본론도 이러한 맥락에서 이해된다. 그는 ‘天人一本’의 강령에 입각하여 인간 내면세계의 화합적 경지를 제시한다. 특히 그는 우주론에서 거론된 皇極과 太極 개념을 해석하고 그 속에서 ‘大中’의 범주를 도출함으로써 인간 마음의 경지를 규명한다. 이 경지가 천도와 인도의 일체성을 체득하는 데에서 도달하는 주체의식의 궁극적 단계, 즉 ‘大中의 道’이다. ‘大中’이라는 말은 우주 혹은 천체의 운행질서에 합당하다는 의미에서 충만성과 충족성의 규준을 가리키며, ‘大中 의 道’는 이 규준을 인간 마음의 원칙이나 원리로 환원한 관념이다. 그러므로 ‘大中의 道’란 인간 마음에서 실천행위의 도덕적 준칙을 체득하는 경지를 함축한다. 修養經의 원칙에 따르면, 전우주적으로 합당하고도 타당한 ‘大中’의 全一的 방식을 통해서만이 인간의 내면적 덕성에 주체적 자율성이 확보되기 때문이다. 따라서 그의 心本論은 ‘大中의 道’의 인간학적 차원에서 心卽理의 원리를 구현하고 궁극적으로는 인간 마음에 正義와 正道의 보편적 가치를 담보하고자 한 것이다.

영문 초록

Lu Jiu-yuan presented the main contents of the original substance of heart-mind in the ultimate process of self-realization which idea is representative for the one fundamental of heaven and humanity. On the foundation of understanding the concepts of Yellow Ultimate and Supreme Ultimate and making their category of Great Mediate, he established the self-consciousness of the world of objects and its axiological significance, and called it the Way of Great Mediate. The term Great M ediate is referred to as the ordinance of all universal fullness. and the Way of Great Mediate as the stage of concordance in the human inner world. It implies that the heart-mind has the moral law of practical actions, namely, the W ay of Mediate. Because it is through the unitary way of universal appropriateness and reasonableness that it can have the subjective autonomy of inner virtue. Consequently, in his doctrine of the original substance of heart-mind, he had the idea that heaven and humanity are unified as a whole through the humanistic canon of the W ay of Great Mediate, and, furthermore, extended the ultimate stage of the W ay of Learning, that is, the universal value of justice and righteousness in the heart-mind.
