도가 철학을 통한 몸의 주체성 회복

국문 초록

본 연구는 장자 철학이 ‘억압에 대한 해방’이라는 현대적 맥락에서 활용될 수 있음을 입증하는 데 목표를 둔다. 이를 위해 노자와 장자 철학에서 찾을 수 있는 몸에 대한 함의를 찾으며 해석할 수 있는지 검토한다. 도가 철학은 특유의 은유법과 생명에 대한 가치 평가로 친여성적인 함의를 담고 있으며, 페미니즘적 담론으로 이어질 수 있다고 해석되곤 했다. 그러나 노자 철학 속 여성은 전통 사회의 틀 안에서 규정된 역할과 책임을 수행하며 선택권을 제한받는다는 점에서 페미니즘 관점에서의 해석과는 상충된다. 그래서 현대에 만연한 몸에 대한 상대적 기준을 해체하고 현상에 대한 비판적인 맥락을 이끌기 위해서 장자 철학에 주목했다. 장자 철학은 상대적 기준에 대한 탈피, 몸의 외적 형상에 대한 집착을 다루기 때문에 현대 몸의 억압 문제와 연관지어 생각할 수 있다. 이렇듯 장자 철학은 현대적 맥락에서 몸을 가변적인 형태로 이해하고, 몸의 아름다움 역시 고정되어 있지 않다는 내용으로 다시금 읽을 수 있다. 따라서 장자 철학은 몸의 억압과 아름다움의 억압에 대한 해방의 담론으로 작용할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study aims to demonstrate that the philosophy of Chuang-Tzu can be utilized in a contemporary context of 'liberation from oppression'. To this end, it makes a study how the implicatiions for the body can be interpreted, esaming the philosophy of Lao-Tzu and Cuang-Tzu. Taoist philosophy has been interpreted as pro-feminine due to its unique metaphors and valuation of life, which can lead to feminist discourse. However, Lao-Tzu's philosophy is at odds with feminist interpretations in that women in Lao-Tzu's philosophy are restricted in their subjectivity, fulfilling prescribed roles and responsibilities within the framework of traditional society. Therefore, we turned to the philosophy of Chuang-Tzu to deconstruct the relative standards of the body that are prevalent in modern times and to provide a critical context for the phenomenon. The philosophy of Chuang-Tzu can be thought of in relation to the contemporary issue of body oppression because it deals with the deconstruction of relative standards and the obsession with the external shape of the body. In this way, the philosophy of Chuang-Tzu can be re-read in a contemporary context as a way to understand the body as a variable form, and that beauty is not fixed. Therefore, Chuang-Tzu's philosophy can serve as a liberating discourse of the oppression of the body and the oppression of beauty.
