번역철학과 셰익스피어 소네트의 번역

국문 초록

번역은 타자를 전제하는 개념이다. 타자와의 만남이 일어나는 장(場)으로써 번역은 철학적 의미를 지닌다. 본 논문에서는 문학번역, 특히 정형시인 소네트를 번역할 때 부딪히는 어려움과 이것이 암시하는 번역 불가능성 앞에서 번역철학이 어떤 지향점을 요구한다. 베르만의 ‘문자적 번역’과 노발리스의 ‘변형적 번역’을 통해 셰익스피어 소네트의 번역이 새롭게 지향해야 할 점을 고찰한다. 기존 번역가들의 지향점과 번역을 분석하고 새로운 대안 번역을 제시하면서 구체적인 실천의 차원에서 번역 체험의 과정을 기록한다. (1)발음의 차이 (2)중의적 단어 (3)환경의 차이라는 세 가지의 ‘낯섦’의 기존 번역본을 분석하고 대안 번역을 제시한다. 실제적 번역 체험의 과정을 거쳐 번역철학의 궁극적인 과제가 무엇인지 성찰한다.

영문 초록

Translation is a concept that presupposes the other. As a place of encounter with the Other, translation has philosophical implications. This paper asks what the philosophy of translation should be in the face of the difficulties encountered in translating literature, especially the sonnet, a formal poem, and the untranslatability it implies. Through Berman's 'translation of the letter(traduction-de-la-lettre)' and Novalis's 'transformative translation', this paper considers what new directions the translation of Shakespeare's sonnets should take. It analyzes the directions and translations of existing translators, proposes new alternative translations, and records the process of translation experience at the level of concrete practice. Analyze the existing translations of three kinds of 'strangeness' (1) pronunciation differences, (2) ambiguous words, and (3) environmental differences, and propose alternative translations. Through the process of practical translation experience, this paper reflects on the ultimate task of translation philosophy.
