『瑣尾錄』을 통해 본 士族의 生活文化- 음식문화를 중심으로

국문 초록

  본 논문은 吳希文(1539～1613)이 기록한 『？尾錄』을 통해 조선중기 양반가의 생활상을 살펴본 것이다. 『？尾錄』은 임진왜란이 일어나기 직전인 선조24년(1591)부터 선조34년(1601년)까지의 생활을 기록한 것으로, 극히 일상적이고 번다한 생활상을 진솔하게 그려내고 있다. 이러한 『？尾錄』의 글쓰기 방식은 종래의 문장관으로 보면 극히 통속적이고 쇄소한 것으로 여겨질 수 있으나, 이것이 곧 『？尾錄』의 진정한 가치이다.
  근세 이전 생활상의 복원을 염두에 둘 경우, 각 시대마다의 음식문화는 일상의 골격인 동시에 몸체 그 자체이기도 하다. 그럼에도 음식문화를 구체적으로 기록하고 있는 문헌은 그리 흔하지 않다. 그런 점에서 식생활에 관한 다양한 자료를 담고 있는 『？尾錄』은 과거 생활상의 복원을 위해 더없이 좋은 자료이다.
  본 논문은 『？尾錄』에 담겨져 있는 다양한 삶의 모습을 음식문화를 중심으로 재구성하고 그 의미를 천착하며, 기존의 관련 연구 가운데 다소 미진한 부분은 보완하고 잘못된 부분이 있으면 조금이나마 바로잡고자 하는 의도로 작성된 것이다.
  『？尾錄』에는 거의 날마다 먹거리에 대한 언급이 있지만, 본 논문에서는 그 가운데 김치와 醬醯, 두부와 국수처럼 이미 우리의 전통음식으로 굳어진 것들을 중심으로 살펴보았다.
  본 연구는 『？尾錄』의 기록을 몇 개의 틀로 재구성해서 그 의미를 찾는 것이므로, 『？尾錄』의 기록 그 자체가 주된 討究의 대상이었다. 또한 가급적 오희문 일가에 초점을 맞추어 놓고 문화인류학적 관점에서 살펴보고자 하였다. 본 연구가 김치를 포함한 각종 전통음식의 변천사나 조선후기 양반들의 삶의 모습을 정확하게 이해하는 데 조금이나마 기여할 수 있기를 기대한다.

영문 초록

  This paper analyzed the living style of the yangban in the middle of Chosun Dynasty in view of 『Shoaemirok』 , written by Oh Heemoon(1539~1613). 『Shoaemirok』 depicted the trivial and troublesome routine aspects realistically and sincerely, which were experienced in taking refuge during Japanese invasion from the 24th year of the reign of King Shunjo, that is, 1591 A.D. to his 34th year, that is, 1601 A.D. The true value of 『Shoaemirok』 lay in its literary style, even though it could be regarded as too demotic and simple.
  Different food cultures in different periods were not only the constitution of daily lives itself but also their whole body itself, considering the restoration of traditional living styles in the premodern times. However, it has not been easy to find much literature which recorded the food culture specifically. From this point of view, 『Shoaemirok』 was the best material for tracing our past living style.
  This paper was intended to reconstruct and make inquiries into multifarious lives in view of the food and entertainment culture, and to complement or straighten some imperfections which could be found in previous studies. 『Shoaemirok』 mentioned almost all kinds of diets, but this paper dealt with what is called our traditional foods among them, such as Kimchi, soybean sauce, pickled seafood, tofu, noodle, and roasted fish or meat.
  『Shoaemirok』 was the main object of this research in itself, as this study reconstructed its records into several frames and sought their meanings. Moreover, the Oh Heemoon family was brought into focus and was analyzed from the anthropological point of view. This study is expected to contribute to a more precise understanding of the history of changes in some traditional foods including Kimchi and the living aspects of the yangban in the late Chosun Dynasty.
