국문 초록

  『파수추』는 여러 가지 웃음 유발 장치를 갖춘 조선 후기의 대표적인 해학 야담집이다. 이러한 평어의 웃음 유발 기능을 검토했다. 작품 말미에 수록된 평어는 본문에서 이미 완성된 해학을 여러 측면에서 보강하는 역할을 수행했다.
  일탈 조정에 대한 꾸짖음의 기능은 상식과 법도를 벗어난 행각을 통해 발생된 웃음에 대한 조정과 중재 방안이었다. 이는 결국 큰 파장의 해학 창조를 위한 눈가림 장치였다.
  평어의 큰 웃음 만들기 기능은 편찬자가 작품에 적극적으로 개입하여, 주인공과 함께 호흡함으로써, 작품의 해학 수준을 고양시키는 역할을 했다. 이 과정에서 이미 유발된 웃음이 보완되어 고급의 웃음이 유발된다. 이렇게 하여 편찬자는 작중 인물과 함께 작품의 해학성을 성공적으로 이끌
어 내었다.
  평어의 능청 떨기 기능은 고도의 해학을 발생시키는 수법이었다. 편찬자가 작품에 적극적으로 끼어들어, 작품의 해학 강도를 상승시켜 작품의 완결성을 추구했다. 능청 구사는 고도의 심리 기법까지 동원해 해학을 생산하는 기능을 수행했다.
  이는 결국 야담의 서사 구조와 긴밀한 연관이 있다고 본다. 즉, 야담이 단순한 기록화 과정을 극복하고, 문예 미학을 추구하기 위한 편찬자의 노력이 담긴 사례라고 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

  Pasuchu is a representative humorous historical story book in late Chosun Period, which contains many causes of a laugh. The comments by an editor at the end of a work played a role of reinforcing humor, which had already been completed in the text, in several ways. This study reviewed a function of these comments as a cause of a laugh.
  In his comments, the editor lightly criticized a work for a laugh caused by behaviors against common sense and a law to control and intervene in excessive deviations. This is ultimately a device for pretense to create humor with great effects.
  The function of comments as a creator of laughter is for an editor to intervene actively in the work to keep tune with a main character and finally raise the level of humor in the work. In doing so, the editor induced humor successfully along with characters who appeared in the work.
  The function of comments as a dissimulator is to cause intense humor. The editor intervened more actively in the work to increase the degree of humor in pursuit of completion. Dissimulation served to produce humor even with a high-level psychological technique.
  As for no comment, the editor left out comments because a work had letter play revealed vividly and its humor completed through the letter play.
  It is ultimately considered that this is closely related to narrative structure of a historical story. In other words, it shows an example that a historical story overcame a simple recording process and involved efforts by an editor to pursue literary aesthetics.
