미술교육연구 방법의 흐름과 경향

국문 초록

짧은 연구 역사에 비해 근래 약 10여년 사이에 우리나라의 미술교육연구는 양적뿐만이 아니라 질적, 내용적인 면에서도 많은 발전을 보이고 있다. 미술교육의 가치와 이념, 그리고 왜 미술교육이 존재해야 하는지를 밝히려는 이론적 연구들이 자주 소개되고 있으며, 이와 동시에 어떠한 연구방법을 선택해야 하는지에 대한 논의도 활발하다. 본고는 미술교육연구를 돌아보고 그 가운데에서도 우리나라의 미술교육에 가장 많은 영향을 미친 미국의 미술교육연구를 중심으로 질적 연구로 연구 방법이 전환된 이유와 배경 등을 살펴보았다. 미국의 경우에는 1960년대 후반부터 많은 연구자들이 그때까지 해오던 과학적이고 실험적인 연구결과에 의문을 품고 그와 반대되는 다양한 연구 방법을 택하는 변화가 있었다. ‘인간성적 연구’, ‘현상학적 연구’, ‘역사적·해석학적 연구’ 등으로 불리는 이러한 다양한 연구방법들은 공통된 특징을 가지고 있지만, 연구물로서의 구성방법이나 형태가 다양하여 한마디로 언급 하기는 어렵다. 현재는 다양한 연구 영역에서 일반적으로 질적 연구라는 이름으로 통용되고 있다. 연구방법론에 대한 고정관념에서 벗어나 연구대상이나 방법 면에서 선택의 폭을 넓혀 갈 때 미술교육의 질은 더욱 향상될 것이라고 생각한다.

영문 초록

The field of art education studies has been enormously growing in its quantitative, qualitative and subject matters for the last 10years in Korea compare to its own short history. Many studies have introduced theories relating to values and ideas of education and the ontological way of art education, and actively involve discussion of proper research methods. This paper considered the reason and background which were changed into qualitative research focusing on art education research of the United States which did many influences to our country, surveyed art education research. In the United States, many art educators raised questions about the results that came out using the scientific and experimental research methods in the late 1960. They tried to adopt according to various new trends at the time. These methods have a variety of ‘a humanistic study’, ‘a phenomenological study’ or ‘a historical and hermeneutic study’. They have some common characters but their formats and methods are quite different, thus such methods are not easy to explain. Currently these research methods are generally called qualitative research methods. Therefore, no fixed idea to research methodology, if we try to further extend the research objectives and methods, the quality of art education will be greatly improved.
