The purpose of this study is to examine the structure of Korean language tests which are mostly performance-based, and to suggest the ways of improving listening, speaking, reading and writing tests. The followings are the research and alternative plan of each domain about evaluation. Most of listening tests involve a very narrow measure of the student's English ability and intrinsically involve a kind of speaking test aw well. Listening test should come with speaking test but should involve also class observation. Paper and pencil testing should be given in parallel so that the various tests can measure the student's ability properly. In Speaking tests, we have a tendency to test our students based on performing only simple tasks. To overcome these problems we must test their speaking abilities by interactive, cooperative test, meta-analysis according to a discourse pattern. Most tests of reading have depended on 'paper and pencil' tests which are designed by teachers only. Therefore the results of the tests could not more extend the student's comprehension. In performance-based testing of reading, we should utilize a more authentic context such as essay, experiment, student portfolio, and practical examination if possible. Writing tests were also mostly based on indirect by 'paper and pencil' tests which could show less a scorer validity. To measure a student's ability well in writing, we need to have more specific criteria that can solve the validity problem. In the methods and materials of teaching, more time and effort on the part of the teacher are usually required in order to deliver meaningful feedback. Because of the many difficulties in testing, it is necessary to improve our tests so that the results of tests are more reflected of language learning. First of all, teachers should be able to reorganize the curiculum of Korean Language before testing. In addition we should develop an outline for testing by school unit and we should utilize it.
