정신건강서비스 환경에서 근무하는 정신장애인 동료지원 경험에 대한 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 정신건강서비스 환경에서 근무하는 정신장애인 동료지원가가 어떤 경험을 하고 있는지 당사자주도 단체, 정신건강 관련 기관에서의 역할 및 직무를 중심으로 살펴보았다. 정신장애인 동료지원가가 활동하고 있는 각기 다른 기관들을 그룹으로 엮어 5개 그룹, 총 21명의 정신장애인 동료지원가를 대상으로 FGI를 실시하였다. FGI 분석결과 네가지 주제가 도출되었다. 첫째, 동료지원가라는 차별성이 가져온 역할, 둘째, 난관이 있어도 극복해가는 동료지원가의 직무, 셋째, 기관마다 천차만별인 동료지원가의 근무환경, 넷째, 동료지원가의 확실한 자리매김을 위한 방안이다. 본 연구의 분석결과에 따른 실천적·정책적 함의는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 동료지원가의 역할과 직무에서 기존 정신건강서비스와는 다른 독특성과 차별성을 발견하였다. 둘째, 동료지원가의 직무에 대한 어려움과 이에 대한 교육의 필요성이 대두되었다. 셋째, 일자리로서 동료지원가는 구조적으로 열악한 상황에 놓여 있는 것으로 드러나 안정적인 근무환경이 요구되었다. 넷째, 동료지원가의 모호한 직무가 동료지원이라는 의미를 상실하게 되어 동료지원가의 확실한 정체성과 직무가 필요하다. 다섯째, 동료지원가 직무와 역할의 원활한 수행을 위해 정당한 편의제공이 마련될 필요가 있다. 마지막으로 동료지원가는 정신장애인이 존재하는 모든 기관에서 ‘정당한 편의제공’의 일환으로 활성화될 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study explored the experiences of peer supporters with psychosocial disabilities working in mental health service settings, focusing on their roles and jobs in peer-led organizations and mental health service facilities. FGIs were conducted with 21 peer supporters in five groups, representing different organizations where peer supporters work. Four themes emerged from the FGI analysis. 1) Roles from distinction of peer supporter, 2) Overcoming the works of peer supporter within difficulties, 3) Wide variation of working environment between each organization, 4) Measures to secure the position of a peer supporter The practical and policy implications of this study are as follows. First, the role and jobs of peer supporters were found to be unique and different from existing mental health services. Second, the challenge of job of peer support is identified and It became clear that training is needed. Third, peer supporters as a profession were found to be in a structurally poor situation and required a stable working environment. Fourth, the vagueness of the peer peer supporter's job duties diminishes the meaning of peer support, so a clear role and identity for the peer supporter is required. Fifth, peer supporters need to be provided with reasonable accommodation to facilitate the performance of their jobs and roles. Finally, peer supporters can be activated as part of the "Providing reasonable accommodation" in any organization where people with psychosocial disabilities are present.
