조부의 손자녀 양육의 경험과 그 의미에 관한 탐구

국문 초록

본 연구는 손자녀를 양육하는 조부의 경험과 조부들의 경험이 갖는 의미에 대해 내러티브 방법을 통해 탐구함으로써 손자녀 양육에서 조부의 존재에 대한 시사점을 찾고자 하였다. 이를 위해 손자녀 양육에 조모와 함께 적극적으로 참여하고 있는 조부 4인을 연구 참여자로 선정하여 면담을 통해 자료를 수집하였다. 수집한 자료를 분석한 결과 다음과 같은 네 가지의 범주가 도출되었다. 첫째, ‘보느냐 마느냐 그것이 문제로다’에서 조부들은 손자녀 양육 과정에서 경험한 딜레마 상황과 그 의미에 대해 이야기 하였다. 둘째, ‘손주가 없다면 삶의 의미가 없다’에서 조부들은 손자녀 양육의 경험이 주는 삶의 의미에 대해 이야기 하였다. 셋째, ‘시간이 넘치면 독이 된다’에서 조부들은 손자녀 양육을 위해 손자녀 그리고 자녀와 함께 시간을 보내는 것의 경험과 그 의미를 이야기 하였다. 넷째, ‘정말로 필요로 하는 것은 사회적 지원이다’에서 조부들은 자신들의 손자녀 양육의 어려움 해결을 위해 어떤 사회적 지원이 필요한지를 경험과 그 의미를 바탕으로 이야기 하였다. 본 연구를 통해 손자녀 양육에 있어 조부의 존재가 주는 시사점을 줄 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

영문 초록

This study attempts to find implications for the existence of grandfathers in raising children by exploring grandfather’s experience and the meaning of grandfather’s experience through narrative methods. To this end, four grandfathers who were actively involved in raising grandchildren with their grandmothers were selected as participants in the study and data were collected through interviews. The following four categories were derived as a result of analyzing the collected data. First of all, in ‘To Care or not to Care, That's the Problem’ grandfathers talked about the dilemmatic situation and its meaning in the process of raising grandchildren. Secondly, in ‘Without Grandchildren, There is No Meaning in Life’ grandfathers laid out the meaning of life given by the experience of raising grandchildren. Thirdly, in ‘Overflowing Time is Poisoning’ grandfathers attested for the experience and meaning of spending time with grandchildren and their own children to raise their grandchildren together. Fourthly, in ‘What Really Needs is Social Support’ grandparents discussed about social support they sought to resolve the difficulties of raising their grandchildren based on their experience and its meaning. Through this study, it is expected that the existence of grandfathers can give positive implications in raising grandchildren.
