국문 초록

본 연구는 구성주의 근거이론 방법을 적용하여 ‘바깥놀이터에서의 유아 놀이’에 대한 교사들의 인식과 실천을 탐색하고, 자료로부터 이론을 구성하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이를 위해 2021년 2월부터 10월까지 7명의 유아교사를 대상으로 집중면접을 진행하였고, 바깥놀이 사진과 동영상, 교사의 놀이기록 등 참여자의 맥락을 다면적으로 살펴볼 수 있는 기타자료를 수집하였다. 수집한 자료는 Charmaz (2013)의 구성주의 근거이론 방법을 활용하여 분석하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 첫째, 교사들은 바깥놀이터에서의 유아 놀이에 대해 바깥 공간의 자유로움 속에서 유아가 주도하는 놀이라고 인식하고 있었다. 둘째, 교사들은 바깥놀이터에서의 유아 놀이에 대해 제한과 변주가 있는 놀이라고 인식하고 있었다. 셋째, 바깥놀이터에서의 유아 놀이를 위해 교사들은 유아와 함께 바깥놀이터를 차이가 있는 공간으로 만들어가는 실천을 하고 있었다. 넷째, 바깥놀이터에서의 유아 놀이를 위해 교사들은 놀이와 안전 사이에서 균형점을 잡기 위한 노력을 하고 있었다. 본 연구의 결과는 유아의 ‘자유’와 ‘주도성’이 발현됨과 동시에 교사의 ‘유아 존중’을 실천하는 장으로서의 바깥놀이, 유아의 놀이를 제한하는 모순에서 탈피하여 자유와 주도성을 담는 공간으로서의 바깥놀이터를 중심으로 논의하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to explore the early childhood teachers’ perceptions and practices of children’s play in outdoor playgrounds. Seven early childhood teachers who were willing to share their awareness and practices of children’s play in the outdoor playgrounds participated in this study. Data were collected through intensive interviews and analyzed using constructivist grounded theory developed by Charmaz(2013). The data analysis included three steps of initial, focused, and theoretical coding processes. Themes and categories that emerged from focused coding were conceptualized as ‘freedom’, ‘child-initiative’, and ‘child-respect’ through theoretical coding. The finding of this study were categorized into four themes. First, the teachers perceived that children’s play in the outdoor playground is a play led by children themselves in the freedom of the outdoor space. Second, the teachers recognized that children’s play in the outdoor playground is a play with limitations and variations. Third, the teachers, with the children together, were making the outdoor playground into a space with a difference. Fourth, the teachers were making efforts to strike a balance between play and safety. The results were discussed as follows. First, the children’s outdoor play is a medium through which children’s freedom and initiative are expressed while the teachers’ respect for child is practiced. Second, the children’s outdoor playground is a space that contains children’s freedom and initiative, breaking away from the space that restricts their freedom and play.
