유아교육기관에서 유아들이 체험하는 공간의 의미

국문 초록

본 연구는 유아들의 관점에서 유아교육기관을 바라보고, 그들의 경험에 귀 기울임으로써 유아들이 체험하는 유아교육 공간의 의미를 살펴보는 것이다. 이를 위해 P시에 위치한 어린이집 만 5세반 유아 20명을 대상으로, 모자이크 접근법을 활용하여 38회 참여관찰을 하였다. 유아들이 체험하는 공간은 성인의 출입을 거부하고 유아끼리만 공유하거나 혼자서만 알고 싶어 하는 사적인 공간과 공간의 경계를 넘나들며 새롭게 만들어내는 창조적 공간으로 나타났다. 연구결과를 바탕으로 유아들이 체험하는 공간의 특징을 논의하면 첫째, 유아들의 사적인 공간은 집과 같이 편히 쉬면서 잠시 머물기 위한 안식의 공간이며, 현실로부터 이탈하여 쾌락을 느끼는 헤테로토피아적 공간이다. 둘째, 기존의 공간에서 유아들이 새로운 공간을 생성해 내는 것은 자신들만의 문화를 만들어가는 과정이며, 이는 유아교육기관의 공간 주체가 유아임을 상기시켜준다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to look at the educational space from a dynamic viewpoint that is constantly created by relationships with other people and surrounding objects, rather than as a fixed physical space, and to examine how children experience multi-layered educational space. To accomplish this, for this research, I selected P daycare center, which practices an ecological early childhood education program twelve boys and eight girls participated in the study. On 38 occasions, researchers participated in the study, and data was collected based on the Mosaic approach. The results of research examining the meaning of educational space that children experience show that there are private spaces and creative spaces, which children create themselves. In a private place, adults are not allowed to enter, they only share the room with friends. This place becomes a secret place for themselves. The creative space children create themselves is produced by classroom materials. And they draw no distinctions or boundaries of the space. The results of this study suggest that desirable early childhood education spaces are arranged as heterotopia spaces that accept individual differences and accommodate independent spaces for children in early childhood education institutions. When children generate a new space in an existing space, it can be regarded as a process of creating their own culture, which reminds us that the subject of the educational space is the child.
