국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 완벽주의적 자기제시가 사회불안에 영향을 미치는 과정에서 유능성 욕구 충족의 조절효과를 검증하는데 있다. 대학생 287명에게 자기보고식 설문을 실시하여 자료를 수집하였다. 구조방정식모형 분석을 실시한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 완벽주의적 자기제시와 사회불안 간 관계에서 유능성 욕구 충족의 조절효과를 가정한 연구모형의 적합도가 조절효과를 가정하지 않은 경합모형의 적합도보다 자료에 더 양호하였다. 둘째, 완벽주의적 자기제시와 사회불안 간 관계에서 유능성 욕구 충족의 조절효과가 유의하였다. 유능성 욕구 충족이 높은 집단에서는 완벽주의적 자기제시와 사회불안 간 관계가 유의하지 않았으나, 유능성 욕구 충족이 낮은 집단에서는 완벽주의적 자기제시가 높을수록 사회불안이 높았다. 이러한 결과는 유능성 욕구 충족이 완벽주의적 자기제시의 부정적인 영향을 완충하는 요인으로 작용함을 시사한다. 마지막으로 이 연구의 제한점과 후속연구를 위한 제언을 논의하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to test the moderating effects of the need for competence on the relation between perfectionistic self-presentation and social anxiety. A self-report questionnaire was administered to 287 college students. Data were analyzed by the structural equational modeling (SEM). The results are summarized as follows. First, of the models with perfectionistic self-presentation as predictor, the need for competence as moderator and social anxiety as outcome variable, the moderation model fit the data better than the non-moderation model. Second, the moderating effect of the need for competence on the relation between perfectionistic self-presentation and social anxiety was significant. In the high need for competence group, the relation between perfectionistic self-presentation and social anxiety was not significant. In contrast, in the low need for competence group, the positive relation between perfectionistic self-presentation and social anxiety was significant. That is, in the low need for competence group, the higher the perfectionistic self-presentation the higher the level of social anxiety. These results imply that the need for competence serve as a buffer against the negative effects of the perfectionistic self-presentation on interpersonal relations such as social anxiety. Finally, limitations of this study and suggestions for further research were discussed.
