다문화에 대한 고등학생의 인식과 태도 연구

국문 초록

이 연구는 다문화에 대한 고등학생들의 인식과 태도수준을 알아보기 위해 수행되었다. 이를 위하여 전라남도 소재 고등학교 1, 2학년 139명을 대상으로 다문화 인식 척도, 다문화 태도 척도를 사용하여 자료를 수집하였다. 수집된 자료는 기술통계, 상관분석, t-검증, 회귀분석을 통해 검증되었다. 연구 결과, 연구대상의 다문화 태도와 다문화 인식 수준은 보통 이상인 것으로 나타났다. 다문화 태도와 다문화 인식의 하위요인들 간에는 모두 유의한 정적 상관을 보였다. 성별에 따른 다문화 태도와 다문화 인식을 비교한 결과, 다문화 태도와 다문화 인식 모두 여학생이 남학생보다 높은 것으로 나타났으나, 통계적으로는 다문화 태도의 하위요인 중 개방과 수용, 실천 의지에서, 다문화 인식의 하위 요인 중 다문화 수용성에서 차이가 유의하였다. 마지막으로 다문화 인식의 다문화 태도에 대한 단순회귀분석 결과, 다문화 태도 총 변화량의 74%가 다문화 인식에 의해 설명되는 것으로 나타났다. 다문화에 대해 학생들이 갖는 인식이 다문화에 대한 태도를 결정한다는 이 연구의 결과는 교육현장에서 다문화에 대한 인식 확장을 위해 보다 체계적이고 폭넓은 다문화 교육의 필요성을 시사한다. 마지막으로 연구의 제한점과 후속연구를 위한 제언을 논하였다.

영문 초록

This study was conducted to observe high school students awareness and attitude towards multiculturalism. Multicultural Attitude Scale Questionnaire and the Multicultural Awareness Scale for Adolescents were administered to one-hundred thirty-nine high school students in Grade 10 and 11 located in Jeollanam-do Province. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistic analysis, correlation analysis, t-test, and regression analysis. The results are as follows. First, the multicultural attitude and multicultural awareness of the research subjects were found to be more positive on above average. Second, the multicultural attitude was positively correlated with all measured variables of the multicultural awareness. Third, analyses of gender differences in the level of multicultural attitude and multicultural awareness showed that females were higher than males in ‘openness and acceptance’, ‘commitment’, and ‘multicultural acceptance.’ Fourth, simple regression analysis showed that 74% of the total variation of multicultural attitude was explained by multicultural awareness. This result shows that the multicultural attitude depends upon multicultural awareness. Thus, it will be necessary to implement more systematic and comprehensive multicultural education. Based on the results, discussions and implications for further research were provided.
