국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 한국의 대표적 철도박물관인 KORAIL 철도박물관의 현황을 파악하여 문제점을 도출하고, 개선방안을 제시하는 데 있다. 근대 이후 한국 철도는 경부선 서울-부산 간 운행시간이 개통 초기 1905년 1월에 17시간 04분이었다. 그리고 같은 해 5월에 14시간, 1957년 7시간 40분, 1963년 6시간, 1985년 4시간 10분, 2004년 고속철도가 개통되면서 2시간 40분으로 운행시간을 단축하였다. 이처럼 철도의 발전과 변화를 통해 철도역사(鐵道驛舍), 철도장비 및 시설, 철도차량 등이 신축 또는 교체되었다. 이 과정에서 많은 철도문화유산이 남겨졌으나, 운영자와 소관부서의 인식과 관심이 부족하여 대부분 폐기 또는 소실되었다. 다행히 2005년 이후 근대문화유산에 대한 새로운 인식이 싹트기 시작했다. 그 과정에서 철도의 역사성이 재검토되고, 철도문화유산 보존에 대한 대중의 관심이 높아지기 시작하였다. 철도문화유산은 대부분 철도박물관이 보존 및 관리하고 있다. 철도문화유산을 보존하고 관리하는 국내 대표적인 철도박물관은 경기도 의왕시의 KORAIL 철도박물관이다. 그러나 보존 및 관리상태가 좋지 않고, 전시장소가 협소하다. 예산 및 인력 부족 문제도 심각해 보인다. 이러한 인식 아래 이 연구는 KORAIL 철도박물관의 전시 및 운영 현황을 살펴보고, 개선이 필요한 문제점 도출과 함께 개선방안을 제시하고자 하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to identify the current status of KORAIL railroad museum, which is Korea s representative railroad museum, to draw problems and to suggest improvement plans. Since the modern era, the Korean Railroad has operated 17 hours and 04 minutes from Seoul to Busan in January 1905 at the beginning of the Gyeongbu Line. And in May of the same year, the time required was reduced to 14 hours, 7 hours and 40 minutes in 1957, 6 hours in 1963, 4 hours and 10 minutes in 1985, and 2 hours and 40 minutes with the opening of the high-speed railroad in 2004. As such, through the development and change of railroads, railroad station buildings, railroad equipment and facilities, and railroad vehicles were newly built or replaced. In the process, many railroad cultural heritages were left behind, but most of them were discarded or destroyed due to lack of awareness and interest from the operator and the competent department. Fortunately, after 2005, a new perception of modern cultural heritage began to sprout. In the process, the history of railroads has been reviewed and public interest in the preservation of railroad cultural heritage has begun to increase. Most of the Railroad Cultural Heritages are being preserved and administered by Railroad Museum. The representative Railroad Museum in Korea which preserves and administers the Railroad Cultural Heritages is the KORAIL Railroad Museum in Uiwang, Gyeonggi-do. However, the preservation and management status is not good, and the exhibition place is narrow. The issue of budget and manpower shortage also seems to be serious. Under this recognition, this study attempted to examine the current status of exhibitions and operations of the KORAIL Railway Museum, draw a problems that need improvement, and suggest improvement plans.
