해외교육봉사활동을 통한 예비교사의 전문성 신장

국문 초록

해외봉사활동을 나가면 주는 것보다 받는 것이 더 많다고 흔히 말한다. 특히 해외교육봉사활동에서는 현지 학생과 봉사단원이 직접 상호작용을 하므로 이러한 주고받음이 활발하게 나타난다. 이 연구에서는 해외교육봉사활동을 수행한 예비교사들이 무엇을 주고받으며 성장했는지 알아보고자 한다. 국립국제교육원에서는 대학생을 대상으로 방학 중 4주 이상 해외에 나가 교육봉사활동을 하는 사업을 지원하고 있다. 이 사업을 수행한 4개 대학의 교수들이 봉사활동 결과 보고서, 예비교사들의 최종 보고서, 일지, 포트폴리오, 평가회 기록물 등을 분석하였다. 예비교사가 경험하며 배운 내용을 정리하기 위한 틀로 ‘교육’, ‘봉사’, ‘해외’의 3개 범주를 설정하였다. ‘교육’ 범주에는 ‘수업 준비’, ‘수업 진행’, ‘수업 반성 및 개선’, ‘코티칭 경험’, ‘교사관 및 학생관’의 소범주가 있으며, ‘봉사’ 범주에는 ‘봉사관’, ‘단체 활동’, ‘정리’의 소범주가, ‘해외’ 범주에는 ‘언어/비언어’, ‘문화’, ‘촬영’, ‘여행’의 소범주가 있다. 각 소범주에 따라 예비교사가 자신의 전문성을 신장해 나간 내용을 기술하였다. 또한 해외교육봉사활동이 예비교사에게 미친 영향을 전체적으로 조망하기 위해, 문화역사활동이론에서 활동체계를 구성하는 6가지 하위 요소(주체, 객체, 도구, 규칙, 커뮤니티, 역할분담)와 예비교사의 전문성 신장 내용이 어떻게 연결되는지 살펴보았다. 이를 통해 해외교육봉사활동이 예비교사 교육에 가지는 의미를 살펴보고, 해외교육봉사활동에 대한 지속적인 지원 필요성을 도출하였다.

영문 초록

Normally, the person doing an overseas voluntary activity gets more than he gives. In overseas educational voluntary activity, the volunteer communicates with students abroad a lot in the lesson. This study investigated what the pre-service teachers have developed their professional capabilities while doing the overseas educational voluntary activity, National Institute for International Education has supported the project that helps pre-service teachers to go abroad more than four weeks for the overseas educational volunteer activity. The authors are the professors from the university that carried out this project. We analyzed the final report by a leading professor, and pre-service teachers’ report, the journal, the portfolio, and the record of reflection etc. The analysis framework consists of the categories of ‘education’, ‘voluntary activity’, and ‘abroad’. The education category includes ‘preparation of the lesson’, ‘progression of the lesson’, ‘reflection and improvement of the lesson’, ‘experiencing the coteaching’, ‘views on the teacher and the student’ as the subcategories. The voluntary activity category includes ‘view on the voluntary activity’, ‘group activity’, and ‘reporting’, and the abroad category includes ‘verbal and nonverbal language’, ‘culture’, ‘recording’, and ‘trip’, We described how the pre-service teachers have developed their professional ability in each subcategory. In addition, to overview the influence of the overseas educational volunteer activity to the pre-service teachers, we analyzed the link between the six elements of activity system according to the cultural historical activity theory (subject, object, tool, rule, community, and division of labor) and the professional ability developed. We discussed the meaning of the overseas educational volunteer activity in pre-service teacher education, and derived the necessity of the continuous support for this project.
