학교 도덕교육의 목표로서의 정신 건강에 관한 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 정신건강이 학교 도덕교육의 목표로서 적절한지를 고찰한다. 이런 목적으로 이 연구는 정신건강을 주요 연구 영역으로 삼고 있는 정신의학에서 보는 정신건강의 개념을 살펴보고 그것을 도덕교육에 적용할 때의 문제점을 찾고 도덕교육에서 목표로 해야 할 정신건강의 개념을 새롭게 규정한다. 정신의학에서는 정신건강의 개념을 정신적인 질환이 없이 사회적으로 원만한 인간관계를 유지하며 일상생활을 긍정적으로 살아갈 수 있는 마음의 상태로 보고 있다. 그러나 이 개념은 정서적인 만족에 치중함으로써 도덕교육이 목표로 추구해야 할 훌륭한 인간이 가져야 할 마음의 상태에는 미치지 못한다. 정신건강이 학교 도덕교육이 추구할 수 있는 목표가 되려면 그것은 심성이 함양된 상태로 규정될 필요가 있다. 심성이 함양된 인간의 대표적인 예는 종교적 마음을 가진 인간에서 찾을 수 있다. 종교적 마음을 가진 인간은 도덕적인 인간인 동시에 정서적으로 만족을 얻는 인간에 해당된다는 점에서 학교 도덕교육이 추구해야 할 이상적인 인간의 모델로서 손색이 없다. 이러한 견지에서 볼 때 심섬함양의 관점에서 새롭게 규정된 정신건강은 학교 도덕교육의 목표로서 적절하다고 할 수 있다. 이러한 심성함양은 메타프락시스의 관점에서 잘 설명되며 도덕교육의 방법까지도 시사해준다.

영문 초록

This study is to identify whether mental health is appropriate as an objective of moral education in schools. For this purpose, this study examines the concept of mental health in the mental medical world, finds the limitation of its medical concept and its alternative in relation to school moral education. Of course, the medical approach for mental health is very important in that nowadays daily stress, hypochondria, aggressive behavior, psychoneurosis, suicide, bullying behavior by peers, individual avarice and misdirected social atmosphere is prevailing to our students extensively. Therefore, our schools need to provide various activities and subject education to students to solve these problems. Moral education is most important among these activities and subjects. A new approach for the mental health of students, that is, moral approach, suggests a new concept about mental health different from the medical concept which focuses on normal or abnormal mentality. It aims to cultivate the Mind-Nature , or the primordial mind as the source and standard of moral behavior. It overcomes the limitation of the medical approach for the mental health of students in that the primordial mind eliminates the root of mental problems of students. The person who the primordial mind was sufficiently cultivated does not anguish over various kinds of mental problems. From this point of view, the true mental health can be acquired through cultivation of the primordial mind, which is properly explained by the concept of metapraxis. Therefore, moral education needs to pursue the mental health by cultivation of the primordial mind.
