아퀴나스 존재론의 교육학적 함의

국문 초록

아퀴나스의 관점에서 형이상학의 근본문제는 존재자 안에서 존재와 본질은 어떤 방식으로 관련되어 있는가 하는 것으로 규정된다. 이는 본질의 탐구에 주안점을 두었던 기존의 입장과는 매우 다른 것이다. 아퀴나스의 존재론에 의하면, 이 세계는 존재와 본질의 관련방식에 따라 위계가 다른 두 가지 존재자로 이루어져 있다. 존재와 본질의 결합으로 비로소 존재하는 보통의 존재자와, 존재가 곧 본질인 특별한 존재자―창조주―가 그것이다. 아퀴나스의 존재론은 이 두 존재자 사이의 차이와 관련을 밝힘으로써 인간이 어떻게 신의 경지로 발돋움할 수 있는가를 보여주고 있다. 인간은 존재 그 자체를 보도록 노력하는 일을 통하여 자기 자신을 완성시켜나가며 이것은 교육의 목적과 다른 것이 아니다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to understand esse as the core concept of metaphysics of Thomas Aquinas and deduct the implications about the aim of education from it. In the viewpoint of Aquinas, the basic question of metaphysics is how esse is related to essentia in ens. According to his idea, Ens is composed of two forces, i.e. esse and esentia. Ens means that which is, or exist. Esse is what is innermost in everything, and esse signifies the act of existing. Essentia signifies something common to all natures, through which diverse beings are placed in diverse genera and species. Aquinas concerns are quite different from the existing standpoint which has focused on studying essentia. According to the mataphysics of Aquinas, this world is made up of two different kinds of being, i.e. God that is esse itself and creatures that are composed of esse and essentia. In spite of this difference both of them are inseparably related to each other. As Aquinas ontology deals with relation and difference between the two worlds, it clearly shows how a man can arrive at his complete fulfillment. The perfection of self as the aim of education can be achieved through a man s efforts―to contemplate being itself.
